Crimes here are basically the same rate as São Paulo, but they happen in more sparse ways. Most of the city is rather safe during the day, but even the city centre is unsafe at night.

the city center (oliveira lima, praça do carmo, around the shopping malls, etc) is extremely safe, I live here for 15 years and never witnessed or heard about a single crime. I don't know about the residential area, but the center and Paranapiacaba is absolutely safe and worth visiting
