Rocky is absolutely the worst town in the country. You WILL be robbed if you walk at night by our colourful locals. Police will not help you in anyway as they are easily bribed, corrupt and sympathetic to criminals. Lock your car and home always. If you are attacked or robbed do not defend yourself or you will be the one going to jail.

It's bad . Really bad. Just have to listen to a scanner app and you'll realise it's really really really bad. Was at the pub a few weeks back overhearing blokes talking about a hit on a bloke. We called the police and they said it's all pzz in the wind and the beer talking. I bet we hear something about it down the track

I have lived in Rockhampton for over 30 years and really love the place. Although Rockhampton is not immune from crime, I feel it is a much safer place to live than the statistics on the site allude to. I haven’t really experienced anything that would lead me to believe that we have an issue with serious crime here.

I live in Rockhampton and I'm not really sure the crime rates on this website are accurate. The only thing remotely bad is when my uncle comes over and touches me, but sometimes the feels good. Otherwise, Rockhampton's a great place, definitely recommend visiting as a tourist.

P.S. Please leave cars unlocked and keys under vehicle as if your car was to be stolen, at least the windows won't be broken in the process.

I have lived in Rockhampton for 18 + years. I agree that theft has increased, especially cars (our car was stolen) and more action needs to be taken. Having said that, the Police were fantastic and very thorough, catching the thieves within 2 weeks. We installed security cameras after our car was stolen and we have not had any problems since. I have met hundreds of absolutely wonderful people in Rocky - who are not rough, who are very intelligent, kind and good living people - and these are the majority of people I have met.. Yes, there are rough people and there are areas within Rocky that are rough areas, just as there is in any town or city, however, there is infrastructure to assist and support these people/families. The climate is quite hot from about November to February and you need aircon but the rest of the year has very pleasant weather. Rocky needs to be looked at as a whole community and I have found it to be a lovely community. The University - CQ University is a good university and I have enjoyed studying there. As a regional university it does well even though of course its offerings less than city universities. Great private schools.
