Are you from Mexico or SA This is for Pietermaritzburg. Baie Dom!
#RE: Mexico beats South Africa on Feb 04, 2017 :
...rankings are from serious, credible expert sources outside of local machinery. It's not surprising that Mexico turns out to be the more dangerous country (this has long been common knowledge in the right circles). Google the abbreviated sources if you don't know them and be careful of what you read on South African forums, blogs and twitters. They frequently give out inaccurate, biased information. You can see this influence on the crime index here. Completely bizarre.

South Africa vs. Mexico security and corruption risk...

iJET | ISOS | Maplecroft | US State Dept Travel Warning issued? | TI (graft) 1 (lowest) > 176 (highest)

South Africa = Moderate | Moderate | High | No | 64

Mexico = High | Moderate to high | Very high | Yes | 123

Cont.

How is it that a city such as San Salvador ranks below 4 South African cities when it's astronomically more dangerous than all of them? It's the way South Africans (hyper sensy) look at crime in relation to many of the other countries and cities listed. That's the smoking gun right there.

Three tourists were shot to death in Medellin, Columbia in the space of a fortnight recently – the city is 98th.

There are a very suspicious number of South African cities at the top of the list. I think I know the reason why, and it has nothing to do with reality.

I was mugged in Burger Street Pietermaritzburg,@ 06H40 today on my way to work, the street children in Pietermaritzburg
has become a real problem, a law on there own and the SAPS does not seem to have any control over this matter, on arrival at work I tried to contact the Jabu Ndlovu Street SAPS three times to file a report to my avail the phone just rang and rang, so please beware of this increasing menace

Crime in Maritzburg is spiralling out of control, Alexandra Police is one of the worst stations ever, you even give them leads but they don't follow up on them. I am from Cleland and many house break ins are taking place all over Hayfields, Bellevue, Scottsville areas. Please can the police actually start doing their jobs and be held accountable to follow up on opened case numbers etc.. don't just forget about it!!!!

I have moved away from SA after 30 years - Maritzburg is a place i love - but my childrens safety and my future is more important - dont compare crime with south america! dont compare it with other SA cities - take a look at europe - its so safe here - we have no perspective because our standards are so low - sadly i based my decision on my fellow south africans behaviour - not on some second hand opinion - we were robbed repeatedly - police didnt come - private security and electric fences is no way to live - i hope to come back some day but right now - no chance.

Its a nightmare =- the whole area is going to hell in a handcart

SA cant even keep the lights on - what chance do we have of a normal life in this country

On Sunday my mountain bike was stolen from Parklane Spat underground parking which had a full time security guard at about 3 in the afternoon. The thief had to cut the cable ties and then untie the bike to get it off the rack, and yet the guard saw nothing and both Parklane Spar and the security company have told me it is my problem, they have not even bothered to investigate whether the guards are involved or how someone was not noticed whilst taking a bicycle off a vehicle parked there before he came in. I find it disturbing that these retail outlets lure you to their shops promising safety and then cannot be bothered to assist with theft.

Hi,in regards to Mandy park.this incident seems clearly like an inside job,or syndicate you could say but you wouldn't know unless you get solid evidence or at least basic investigation done.i advise you to get a private investigator involved and let him compile a file through his investigation,as this incident could be one leading to many more in future.

These rankings are misleading because the white South African community are drama queens known for bigging their crime up. They will deliberately come on here (it may sound crazy but it's true [if you're familiar with their behavior you'll know what I'm talking about – they're an online nuisance]) and purposely skew their cities as high as possible and say crime is getting worse every year, regardless of whether crime has actually been going up or down.

I suggest looking up reputable security companies that rate cities, they consistently rank Latin American cities as more dangerous than South African ones – they dominate them.

Latin American culture is different. Despite their emotive nature they don't dramatize or exaggerate crime situations like white South Africans do – in fact they underplay it.

Hence, you have a distorted ranking.

The crime in Maritzburg is getting out of control. It's like we don't even have police here anymore. The community needs to start taking matters into their own hands. That's why I'm planning on starting my own initiative. A band of heroes if you will. Those who'll fight for those who can't.
