I have lived in Thailand since 1995 and in the Pattaya Jomtien area since 1999, it's easily one of the safest destinations to live, work or visit and the cost of living is very low compared to even Bangkok but certainly a fraction of most big cities. Yes Pattaya is becoming quite like Asia's Las Vegas without the gambling but the fact that 19+million tourists visited Pattaya/Jomtien in 2019 puts it in the big leagues. That also brings with it the top world-class shopping malls, water parks, hotels, infrastructure and much much more. Now with the high-speed train under construction, in 2024 the trip to the center of Bangkok will take 55 mins and the local Utapao (10 mins by car) airport will be re-vamped to a similar capacity of the main BKK Suvarnabhumi airport of 30 mill passengers/year. The EEC project surrounds the region and has USD$445Bil in infrastructure developments and 3 new smart cities of 55,000 houses each. The future looks very promising and this region will blossom with time.

Way safer than this... It's possible some areas are bad for locals but the main tourist area felt remarkably safe.

Comparing Cebu (massive poverty, mixed in the same areas as the "developed" buildings) with Pattaya is laughable. Cebu feels 10x less safe. In pattaya the ladys may call out at you but there are no shifty shirtless males hanging around waiting to rob you...

I'm from Japan.I been live in Pattaya for 23 years. And I travel monthly many big city in Europe, USA, Asian countries and south america. If who don't understand to live or travel in global can talk anything as they found problem and problems.
I never felt unsafe in Pattaya and all my friends either.
Who complain for unsafe means who have bad society with bad people who live together in an organized way, not because of Pattaya is unsafe.Your community is unsafe wherever you live.

I have lived in Pattaya the past 12 years. This is the most safe I have ever felt in any City (and Im from Denmark). I can walk alone at night, I can walk with gold chain and gold watch. I can walk anywhere on any street, day or night. I have never been robbed or attacked and none of my friends have been robbed or attacked. Sure there is the occasional episode where a drunk tourist gets his wallet lifted by a ladyboy, but compared to all other cities where I have lived (Hannover, Miami, Vegas, Madrid, Copenhagen, Hamburg...) this is by far the most safe place. If you dont believe me, then drop me an email and I will show you that this is indeed a very safe city. And to those who say "pattaya tourists are murdered often", please look at the numbers!!! We have 12 MILLION TOURISTS a year in Pattaya, and we have LESS murders pr year than USA have pr day!!! Like says, the biggest cause of death in Pattaya is overdose of Viagra :-D
