im male 33 and lived in this city since i was 17 (abroud for ~5 years). Indeed i have seen it become more negative. We used to be a silly little city up in the north, like the hobbits in lord of the rings. But it has changed, and we are becoming any other big city like rotterdam or amsterdam.. and all their problems of violence and unsafe situations. I dont see a solution, more police can help, but how much? They will not be the full solution (in my opinion). The problem of the decline of Groningen is multi faceted and requires a similar multifaceted solution(s). We must first understand the problem in detail before an accurate solution can be imagined. I hope that as a culture we are able to have that discussion. I really hope so.

Woman whose lived in Groningen for almost 6 years. The city is swiftly on the decline and if you're a woman, don't go out at night alone. The men in this city are more lecherous than any other place I've been to (I've visited 30+ different countries in my lifetime), and the police will absolutely not care about you. If you get sexually assaulted, don't even bother reporting it to the police as it will only cause you more pain.
