As a college town, one of the most common types of crime in Eugene is bike theft (if you have a bike in Eugene, invest in the best U-lock or heavy Dutch-style bike chain you can afford, although nothing will stop these guys if they really want your bike). Alcohol and drug-related crimes are common (and some females have reported date-rape drugs in use at UOregon-vicinity bars). Graffiti is common throughout town. Homeless people camping in public spaces and panhandling is a routine activity. Eugene is a "sanctuary city" for illegal aliens. There is little tolerance for political conservatives in this heavily-liberal (but highly-politically-intolerant town). Most conservatives simply don't display yard signs, Republican bumper stickers, Trump hats, etc. Concealed carry is allowed in the state, which is good since police coverage is very thin (misdemeanor crimes go largely unpunished, see for example https://nbc16.com/news/local/police-chief-says-eugene-lacks-resources-to-target-misdemeanors-for-now , November 6th 2019). Your milage may vary. Good luck, and try to stay safe out there!
