I have lived in Detroit my entire life and have traveled outside of the country multiple times; let’s say I’ve felt safer at home than most places I’ve traveled to in and out of the country. If you don’t go looking for trouble you won’t find it. I’m an 31 African American female and before becoming a homeowner I too had moved outside of the city. Moving outside the city seemed better but the key word seemed better they have there crimes as well. I stay to myself but living in Troy for 4 years after school I had 2 vehicles torched even though I had cameras all around property as well as neighbors the investigation never went far to convecting anyone… Since moving back to the city NOTHING has been done to me, or my personal belongings so yes I disagree completely with this… we are not a hateful group of individuals who target ppl! But if you go looking you shall find what you are looking for!

You know the old saying “ it’s a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there “ ..... you don’t even want to visit.. I have been an officer here for 15 years .... so many other awesome cities in Michigan to see why go into harms way.

Lived in Detroit all my life too, never had a problem since I knew what areas to stay away from. Not saying that's right or fair, just how it is.

@MS: I didn't make myself a target and was still mugged and beaten. Motor City should be renamed as Broke & Ghetto City.
