I've been looking for another country to retire in a few years and I was comparing Davao to where I live now, which is a small city in central Canada. According to the crime indexes, ours here is over twice as high as Davao. We used to have a nice relaxed quiet city years ago, but not anymore.
But looking at Davao, I'm thinking I may have found my future destiny. With a retirement income of $1900 (CDN) per month, it should be no problem surviving there.
Crime will happen anywhere you go, just some places are more crazy than others. (like the states).

I am from Davao. It's the safest city in the Philippines. You can leave your bag at the morning in a public place, and you can expect it to be still there at night. Or try the nearest police station, in the lost & found.

Look at the recent comments. It's election time and the paid trolls are trying their best to bring down Sara Duterte and Davao City. I am a traveler and I have traveled across different cities and provinces in the Philippines and Davao City is definitely the safest cities I have ever been to. Friendly police are everywhere and cctvs are everywhere.

Don't open your mouth if you don't even have a clue on the history of Davao. You are probably some kind of youngster or student who thinks they are too edgy against that someone.

In 2016 before Philippine election I saw Davao City in #4 safest city to live in the world. Why I don't see Davao now out of 226 cities.
