Remember folks, this is the same website based in Serbia that said Davao was the safest city in Asia. Also keep in mind that when Numbeo claimed Davao the the safest city less than 1,000 people voted it the safest city.
#Anonymous on May 23, 2019 :
People who don't live or even visit Davao, can have a say on how safe Davao is. Some comments here only saw the bombing incident when it's very rare to happen.

I would like to see my fiancee noimelyn gludo to be able to get the proper prossesing quickly to be here with me until we move back when I retire.
#Fr Tom Martin on Jun 29, 2018 :
I have lived in Davao for over ten years as an expat from Texas. I am not affiliated with the church at all now. I an retired.

Guards present in all public places are for security and it is too bad the U.S.A dies not do the same. I have never felt threaten by their presented. In fact quite the opposite I feel more secure.

My home in Houston was broken into three timed in an up scale subdivision. I have never been broken into in Davao. U SM not careless and keep fate lichen at all times. Robberies and burgularies happen everywhere.

I do not walk on deserted streets, but I do walk all around town. I am not afraid, but stay aware of my surroundings. I am 80 years old.

Davao has great doctors and hospitals. Good schools and great shopping. There is a building boom happening now. Traffic can be a problem.

I love Davao and will be here until I die and buried here
#ian Buchan on Mar 24, 2018 :
in the Community where I live there has been a recent spate Of Break ins largely due to people being careless and not locking doors or front gates
which seems to be in one area in particular . The local police are working with the local community in catching these people once and for all. aside from this Davao and its environs is a lot safer than Manila and its environs indeed I was robbed in a Church in Bulacan on a Sunday of my wallet which was never recovered ,this was in 2011 and no every shop does not have guns , Boraocay is a shithole compared to Davao indeed the President has ordered to close Borocay until it cleans its act up
#Herbert on Mar 22, 2018 :
Davao safest city in the Philippines? Must be a joke, almost every shop has its security with different types of guns. I even saw a guy with a pumpgun in front a clothes store. Every mall has its metalldetectors because fear of bombings that happened several times in the last years. For me it felt like it will happen something very bad soon thats - why so much gunholding people. Felt unsafe there, I prefer Boracay or smaller towns in Mindanao.
#Ian Rees on Mar 22, 2018 :
These stats for Davao are way out especially on crimes most people feel safe here whoever is putting out false information needs to be held accountable
#ian Buchan on Feb 16, 2018 :
I find the comment of one wrong when they said there were frequent Bombings in Davao, This is not True at all in fact I would challenge that person to name all these "frequent Bombings" apart from the incident in September 2016 there have been no further incidents of that kind at all , I have live in Davao for almost 3 years now and have never had a problem here also unlike another person who said there is nothing to do here they must be walking around with their eyes closed as there is plenty to do from visiting Eden Park, The Philippine Eagle Sanctuary, The Crocodile Park also you can go Hiking up Mt Apo with a Guide ,also there are many movie theatres in the Malls all of which are very modern with Security at the Entrances and on all floors there are also various parks and places to see like Jacks Ridge Resort also the Japanese Tunnel from WW2 then of course you can take a ferry to Samal island to visit one of the many resorts , I also have to say that Security has been significantly improved with Armed Soldiers and Police patrols especially at night on the Island. Davao city compared to Manila is a lot safer as long as you use common sense and be aware of who is near you especially at an ATM machine and do not dress to show your wealth. and always be respectful to the locals and people in Authority like the Police,Security officers and immigration officers and staff also be respectful to Mall staff . try to learn some of the Language like basic greetings as that will show your trying to learn the Culture and Language. Davao is a good place to visit and live as long as you behave and follow the rules here.
#mILES bENZ on Nov 06, 2017 :
Davao is the safest City in the Philippines all because the Mayor has the will to impose the law and punish crime. He can do that because he is not beholden to anybody. He has no desire for costly living ang eats with the masses. He leaves his home at night and do patrol the city himself.
#@gj on Oct 30, 2017 :
I live here and no problem at all. I lost 2 things, but we found all of them.
Truly, its the BEST!
#Darren Durrant on Oct 24, 2017 :
going back again and past 6 times being there it was safe, couldn't sleep cause of sunburn one night and walked around davao from 2am- 4am and never had any issues. Every tine i been there i never been harassed for anything and never overcharged in shops or taxis.
Only those that get themselves into trouble are people that have an arrogant attitude or do crime. If you obey the law then nothing to worry about. Many sites to see like Samal Island, crocodile park, eagle sanctuary ,eden park, Mt Apo ( bit of a drive ).
#Rey Zambrano on Sep 12, 2017 :
Davao is the safest City in Philippines; I am in other place but when I lost my phone in Robinson it was returned at the reception..
Great and awesome experience..
#Meow cat on Sep 02, 2017 :
Have visited this city 9 times and is safe. Davao is in mindanao, and infact it is on the southern region so everyone expects it to be shook by terrorism once in a decade. Nevertheless, their city is always prepared. They have a central 911 hotline which has search and rescue capabilities, emergency K-9 units and basic Emergency response units. Their equipment are also fairly modern (unlike ours here in cebu, Cebuanos, lets accept it). This is the only city I have been to wherein the EMS ambulances of the government are better than the Hospital Ambulances. I have also heard that the City hospital can also compete with the Private hospitals (which does not happen that much in any major city in the Philippines). The 911 fire engines are not that old unlike other cities. Police are not corrupt and very determined to serve, I have also observed that not much of them are fat *cough cebu cough manila cough other cities. There are also soldiers with red wristbands (TF davao) roaming around the city with their dirt bikes. I have also went around the hiked the vicinity of San Pedro Hospital at 5:30 am for an hour, wearing some expensive clothing, bringing out my I phone and my audio technica headphones, In other cities, these hours are often known for street robbery, but nothing happened to me there in davao. Street CCTV's are everywhere too, I heard that they have very clear resolution (an issue for other street cctv's in the PH) so do not fear. In case of road safety, speed limits are implemented in the road too, 30kph is the city limit, some inner city 6 lane roads at 40kph and the national highway at 60Kph. Discrimination is also not allowed, like discrimination of race and gender, they have implemented fines for that. No smoking in public places, There is a liquor ban for public places, also a loud music ban (forgot the time thou). I have also observed that most stores tend to give the exact change, even the taxis I have rode so far, unlike other cities who have to ask you for some coins to fill the gap. Anyways, as they say, Low crime does not mean No crime, so just stay vigilant and alert in public places and do normal security measures at home, hotel or wherever you maybe. WILL TOTALLY COMEBACK TO DAVAO.
#Jdc on Jun 08, 2017 :
Unsafe here, bombings happen randomly, about 2 in 10 in population live in slums. There is nothing to see and do, people are quite backwards.
#foreigner on Jun 03, 2017 :
yeah, safest, with Martial law. What will be next? Police patrols check points around Davao during the night, Military check points outside of Davao( checking who is going out and going in the city).Cant walk in to the mall not being searched by guards and metal detector, armed guards in every small store, safest, yes sure safest. To live there is like sitting on a bomb that will explode anytime.Foreigners dont have much to do there, go to mall, or sit in condo. There are places in Davao where white men better not to show up at night. Is not safe as everyone says, is danger there ofcourse. Sit in your house you will be safe.Try to do some business there than you will see what is it all about.

Other Phiippine cities only have around ~50 contributors. While this one has 845

And according to this site. Valenzuela is supposed to be the safest city in the Philippines, not Davao.

People shouldnt rely too much on this site. It's really screwed

Yes, we are facing problem in Davao City now, such as bombing along Roxas (Ateneo De Davao)last night (Sept. 2) but still Davao is the safest City in the Philippines. You always feel secured walking the street day and night. Do still hoping our President Rodrigo Duterte and the government officials will resolved this case.
#David H. on Sep 02, 2016 :
Still safest city in the world? or 4th safest? Come on. Well.. actually maybe it won't drop because explosions aren't listed up above as part of the highly scientific statistical sampling study which of course is based on facts - NOT! As someone else pointed out, it's scary when the news actually reports that Davao is the 4th safest city in the world and bases it on this consumer input website. As my posting down below shows, there are many whole countries with murder rates lower than Davao. Just look at the proof. The actual statistics from the UN, from the countries themselves, such as Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, Ireland... many more. Look at the Philippine's own stats. The real proof. Someone down below said "look at the proof" but was using Numbeo without understanding it's consumer input only and NOT BASED ON FACTS, only perception. Economist Intelligence Unit - has an annual report of 50 safest cities in the world - not one from the Philippines. Not one! Oh and those people who visit and say nothing happened, so it's safe? I was in Afghanistan for a tour and Iraq for another tour. Well, I'm alive, seemed safe to me.. no problems there since I had no issues. Maybe Kandahar is 5th safest city in the world... Nothing happened last September in Samal? Well sure, you say it's not Davao, it's a whole long 10 minute ferry ride away... Anyway, nothing to lose one's head over... Leaving Davao next week.. off to Bagdad, hmm 5th safest city in the world?

I leave in Davao. To all the people did not know about about Davao. I will tell you that Davao is very safe when you walk at night and daytime. How many times I experienced walking alone during night time and day time, when I was in High school and College. Many people now making black propaganda about Davao because of this election, but all they said are not true about My hometown. When mayor duterte is not a mayor in Davao, we back 1998-2001 our mayor at that time is Mayor Benjamin De Guzman under is jurisdiction Davao has many crimes. But when Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte Back as Mayor in 2001-2010, Davao has Change, we feel safe when we are walking at night and daytime, many projects that our beloved mayor do with out his name or face in his face, like 911 and PSSCC olny in asia, people'S Park, crocodile park, Davao Convention Center, a Rehabilitation center for young adults who use drugs, cause they want to change, SPMC (Southern Philippines Medical Center), Philippine Eagle Center in Davao and so many .. All that you cannot see mayor Duterte Face or name. Because he said from the People to the People.. To those who did not yet visit Davao and want to visit. I will surely you can enjoy, while you staying in Davao.. All the Davaoeños are discipline at hospitable..

When I checked this page some six months ago, there were less than 500 contributors. Today I see there are over 700. This is without question, election related.
FYI, the official murder and homicide rate for the period Jan - Jun 2015 is 615.
This is broken down to 363 murders and 252 homicides. Source: Official PNP Davao Website

Because of the upcoming election, various propagandas from different candidates emerges. Its very safe in Davao for Gods sake. Don't listen to candidates, just ask your friends or anyone whos been there or better yet go there yourself. I've been going back and forth from manila to davao, and I can say its very safe there especially at night.
#Bella Monica Montecino on Apr 15, 2016 :
I was born here in Davao City, grew up here and now I am 50 years old. Davao was once very dangerous during my teen years and became peaceful only during Duterte became Davao City's Mayor. Our city is clean, we have a clean environment and davaoeños are peace-loving.

Should one says davao city is not safe, then you're wrong. My eldest son works as an accoustic singer and guitarist and comes home at 1am or 2am and my daughter is working as a call center agent. she leaves home at 11pm and get home from work at 12nn. Davao City is not perfect but for me, if compared to other key cities of the Philippines... then Davao is really the safest!
#Aheezy Da Islander on Mar 31, 2016 :
Whats up yall i've been to Davao a couple of times and its always a breath of fresh air coming from Cebu or Manila.. very safe even at night time.. its amazingly the safest city in the Philippines EVEN tho its technically right by a combat zone (Muslims/NPA vs Philippine Army) yet Davao is the safest city?? That shows a EXTREME amount of ... i'm just amazed with Duterte is is the key to bringing back the Philippines to being the Pearl of Orient.

As an Australian who has been to Davao in 2015 . I am definitely coming back .In fact i'll be there April May 2016. I traveled around walking, Jeepney and Taxi mostly on my own and not once did i feel worried or threatened...The people were friendly and polite... I made many new friends and i look forward to making many more . My only complaint from 3 weeks there was the first trip from the airport to my hotel... Sadly i had a Taxi driver rip me off for the fair. However that did not take away from a wonderful time for the remainder of my trip .... See you soon Davao
#Erico Magluyan on Mar 13, 2016 :
I have visited Davao City 4 times. I was there last January 2016. I have always felt safe. I have always enjoyed my time in Davao City. Taxi drivers do not cheat you, I feel safe when I visit malls and stay there for hours. I like walking, so I walk to the malls every day for the week that I stay. All these negative news about high crime rates in Davao City are political fabrication. I am a balikbayan and have no ties with the current Mayor or any of his affiliates. I believe that the Duterte family has done an exceptional job of taking good care of Davao City.
#mayet on Mar 11, 2016 :
Just visited Davao City, I believe it is the most wonderful, safest, and cleanest city I have ever been to. Been to Manila for several months, in Cebu and Dumaguete for years pero only in Davao where I can roam with jewelries on, no one has snatched them; super wide road; honest drivers, etc..
#ingy on Mar 04, 2016 :
davao is a wonderfull city to live. ofcourse we have a bit of crime but if you see the numbers here that the haters post(3000 crimes per three months) in a city of more than 2.5 million people. to compare(amsterdam in netherlands has 50.000! crimes in 3 months while the city is not even a million people!) I have lived in both citys and Amsterdam is way more scary and shit than Davao!

God bless Duterte!

Negative comments will have nothing to do on the actual situation of Davao City. I have American friends and they are in fact, satisfied living/ staying in Davao City because they can roam around the city without fear during night time as there are no criminals that would attack them; unlike Manila, and other parts of the cities in this country, wherein snatchers, robbers, and kidnappers are always present.

Davao City is very safe. With 911 are easily solved. Even my friends who came from Metro Manila attested that Davao City is safe and very quite place. People are law-abiding citizens.

In terms of economy, Davao region outperformed all other regions in the Philippines with 9.4% Regional Domestic Gross Product in 2014. This is even higher with the national economy of 6.1%.

Davao City is the first in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The active ICT industry in Davao City ranked first among the 37 destinations of the ICT investors, being the number 1 next wave cities since 2011.

Problem with those who comment here is that mostly use aliases. Anyway, like in highly urbanize cities davao had it shares of crime. The solution to crime however is very efficient. In less than 72 hrs crimes are solve. Owe this to the city's 911 emergency and security apparatus and a matrix of tripping points that mayor duterte put in place in the city.

Before you go quoting "Davao is the safest city in the world" lie again please read David H's comment on Oct 05, 2015. Davao is not the safest city in the world. When you advertise it as a fact when it is not true it makes your city and people look stupid.

This survey will probably be used and manipulated during election mudslinging time in the Philippines. I was born and raised in Davao, if you consider yourself a normal person with no ill will and has self-awareness then you're completely safe in Davao. but if you lack both of what i just said, then you will be at some risk, not just in Davao but anywhere in the world.
##LUKE on Nov 25, 2015 :
#cetootski he's been mayor now since 2013, the status you are giving are before Duterte became mayor again. the last time he was mayor was 2010. so the records 2010-2013 before his re-election is not his fault.
Please correct me if I am wrong
#cetootski on Nov 23, 2015 :
To those who think duterte is effective in lowering criminality, explain this to me:

davao monthly total crime per 100,000 population for 2011 is 45.7 (multiplied by 12, that is 548.4 crimes per year per 100,000 people in the city)

NCR yearly total crime per 100,000 population for 2010 is 407.5

to those who will note the difference in the year, latest available stats for NCR is only for 2010. before you cry foul about this, take note that davao city figures for 2010 were even higher.

crime perception really is dependent on how free and aggressive your press is. a very telling study would be to count the number of media related persons for every 100,000 people.

Hi everyone, I've never been to Davao City but i have heard a lot of good thing sounding's the city.
From the public officials, to the law enforcement, i really admire how the city is being governed by such a true public servant Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Being recognized as one of the most safest city to lived in is undeniably the best way to describe how good its leader leads his jurisdiction. If i will move into another place I would definitely chose Davao City as my top place to live in. Wishing someday the Philippines would be as good as Davao City.

i will share my experience in davao... im from the usa and have never travelled outside the continental usa. i also had foreknowledge about the terminator duterte... last year... alone outside dvo international airport there were what looked like soldiers armed with ar-15 standing guard. ive never seen military on duty at a civilian airport but i saw nothing wrong. i took a cab to my hotel. a quick inspection demanded an upgrade... this place is kinda dusty and i need to make my fiancee happy... if i ever meet her... anyway... onto marco polo.... now this is nice... people everywhere and i stick out like a fish with legs. security everywhere... seriously i mean every 50 feet there is an armed guard... no wonder theres no crime here.... i guess it works... so im cool with it... i didnt see anyone being hassled by the cops... not once... but i will say this... yes theres an armed guard every 50 feet... one was hiding in the bushes at marco polo and smiling at me 'thats right i see you'... but i believe many of these weapons are not hot... meaning they were not loaded. which made me feel better because i thought these kids looked a lil young. a loaded assault rifle would have raised a red flag in my mind given the circumstances...i will say they did do a good job hiding this fact also... the angle they stood and or would place their hand over the magazine or lack thereof... anyway... now i did notice that as i approached a bank the security increased. although the number of guards remained constant the level of training increased... and yes... these weapons were hot... well done duterte
#John on Oct 10, 2015 :
This is really just a bunch of bullshit. This is all based on self-reported data. These "crime algorithms" don't even regard any actual statistics. I'm Canadian and I've been living in Davao for about 6 months. Davao might be a little safer than most cities in PH but to say that it's one of the safest in the world is just a flat-out lie. I consider Davao to actually be a somewhat dangerous city. I've been stalked, threatened and mugged on five different occasions by four different individuals/groups of people since I've been here. The media here is lying to their citizens. Just look at the statistics from the United Nations and those are only the murders that are actually reported. I like this city, it's not a bad place to live. I'm just getting tired of people telling me this is one of the safest places in the world. A statement like that is just ludicrous.
#David H. on Oct 05, 2015 :
Based on 424 people's PERCEPTION folks. Look at the facts from The National Statistical Coordination Board Davao Office. Davao City itself had 192 murder/homicides in 2011 (Davao Region had 799). While according to the UN, Hong Kong had 27, Singapore 11, Ireland 54, New Zealand 41, Greece 184 during that same time frame (those are whole countries with less murders than Davao). Then look at the Economist's Intelligence Unit's report on personal safety. No city in the Philippines makes the top 50 in the world. Look at facts and not the perceptions of 424 people. Just today was just reading about two murders in one paper... a vendor and a government employee both in Tugbok. Most of these are stabbings and people shot from motorbikes. Davao is not a bad place, has a good mayor, and I like it here - but don't go saying how it's the safest city in the world when it clearly is not. Numbeo is a consumer input website. Not based on facts.

Your mayor is Good man too rare mk sure a guy with smart suite smart talk dont take over and corrupt what he has done with loyalty of the other public servants. I enjoyed reading all these comments. Peace be upon you Mayor of Davao city
#yojian on Sep 10, 2015 :
If people commenting are not silly, see the statistics. There are still numbers pertaining to crime index, just if so you understand. Yet safety compare to other cities fight in decimals and whole numbers. To think, this city is almost 2 million in population, there are still petty cases of crime.

Davao city is generally safe. I am a living witness of my beloved city's rise from being called the killing fields, nicaragdao, etc in the 80's to the present state that it has now. I am not proud but very happy to announce to fellow Filipinos that WE can become great and be disciplined if we only BELIEVE, we are UNITED , and WORK hard... I am very happy to note that our mayor is not bragging but helping other provinces about our success in many aspects... I always cry when I read news about our accomplishments. It is very noteworthy coz we achieved them WITHOUT the BIG help of imperial Manila...We did it our way...Out of the 6 billion pesos income (5th in Phils, 2015), we remit 4 b pesos to Manila, only 2 billion is left. So, how can we live by that? Thru our mayor's ingenuity, creativity, support by the private sector and cooperation of Davaoenos who saw the wisdom of his actions, Davao City has become big time now. I hope other Filipinos are happy for us and we are more than willing to help others on how we made it SO OUR NATION WILL EMERGE OUT FROM THE MUD, FROM THE PANINIRA, TUKSO NG IBANG NATIONALITIES SA PAGIGING KULELAT NG BANSA NATIN...WE MUST UNITE...Other tribes , ethnic groups are not the enemies. The enemy is ONESELF and I hope that we stop having crab mentality but unite and cooperate so other places will become the next Davao city and we will all rejoice with the fruits of our labor...MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS...

as for davao safety, it definitely is overrated. Many crimes, especially theft, and even holdup, go here unnoticed (you can ask people that are walking there i do believe a number of them have experience of things being snatched, etc.). And that's my observation as davao citizen.

the comment below mine is right. on Aug 27, 2015 :
Safest?that's hyperbole.
I livedwas in Zamboanga for 24years. A city known as one of the most dangerous city in the PI but, I was free and safe. I moved to Davao on November 2012 and the same month and year I was holdup by a riding tandem. A year after, I created a business and gained friends who are users and scroungers! I think, the survey only limits to the publicity of the mayor and how he controls the city but in reality,Davao has no bench to any city in the PI. THIS IS MY OPINION BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE!

Davao City is the best for me. Don't say bad things to Davao City if you never been here. "Davao City" not Davao del sur not davao del norte, not davao oriental. Only " DAVAO CITY"

I am a Canadian and have been living in Davao city the last 6 months and I love it here! Sometimes I might not be able to sleep and I'll go for a walk at 1 or 2 in the morning... I'll never forget the night I ran across the gang of older teen boys... They blessed me (a sign of respect) and then we played basketball for the next hour - in a park where they wouldn't bother anyone! Such troublemakers! Another time I was talking with a Traffic Officer when a man obviously without a piso to his name came up and handed the officer a wallet he had found... The gentleman had not even looked to see what was inside... He just knew it wasn't his! But it's not all as nice... I have a Filipino friend who drives like a maniac...

The data comes from internet users. Majority of the city lives below poverty line and with no/limited computer access. Your survey is restricted to the few above-poverty-line respondents, reading emails protected by fences and iron grilled windows. Davao's crime rate may be better than other cities within the Philippines, but 4th in the world? I doubt. Crime is always proportion to poverty. The local government tough crime stance has been driving the petty criminals away from the city. But in Davao you can never leave your ipad in a table for 5 minutes - which, you can still do in some cities in japan, europe and us. In davao, your Levi's pants wont be safe in the clothes line, unless you have fences and a guard dog.
Try make a japanese version of this survey and get answers from different cities and prefectures in Japan. Osaka wont even be in the top 10. Your survey here is flawed, please consider other variants.

I AGREE that Davao is the safest city in the Philippines
being the 4th safest city in the world.

I don't really agree because as what i have known the 4th safest city is STOCKHOLM, Sweden
and YAHOO is more reliable than
