Came to Daegu March 2013 as a retired Army officer/defense contractor. My time here has been pleasant, delightful people for the most part. I've lived in a variety of high rise apartment complexes with underground parking and on site security. No threat of break-ins, robbery or home invasion. Both my cars have remained unmolested while parked underground.

Violent crime (or any crime) for the most part is seen on the news and never experienced by me. Walking the city at night - never afraid - and no reason to be so in most any of the downtown areas of shops and restaurants, shopping malls, subway or monorail stations.

80 % of the current generation here are college graduates - amazing statistic. Even around our Army Garrisons - where in the US - one would expect neighborhoods of transient populations and the danger that spawn from them ... the 'villes' here are mostly quiet - with less than expected violence spawning from our young GIs - drunk - missing curfew, etc or mixing with the locals or police while doing so.

A most enjoyable environment for me - straddling small-town America US Army PX and Commissary - with Korean restaurants and shopping. When my 5 year defense contract is over - I will sadly be returning to the US - renewing my concealed carry permit - and missing a society one wishes America could be more like ...
