I too noticed a significant presences of black Africans in groups, loitering in the alley ways and streets. Many were drinking and arguing at times that seemed aggressive. Other times, a few lurked in the dark recesses of street ways which made it uncomfortable to walk by and put us on high alert. We visited in 2025.

This city used to be very safe. It is incredible how the demography has changed in just one year. This city was always very international because of the university. However, now is full of Africans and Indians. I don't feel safe any more, and I'm a strong, tall man. There's just too many Africans. One can be easily beat up, but they are always in groups. Sometimes, I wonder if I'm in Africa or in Portugal. It is that bad...
