It seems to be the same worldwide: It pretty much depends on the area you are living in.
I have no worries whenever I am in Plano Piloto, Sudoeste, Noroeste, Lago Sul, and Lago Norte.
The police force is polite and honest.

The plano piloto area is generally safe, just beware the bus station and the sorroundings of the city, such as Ceilandia, wich is a very big and dangerous favela
