I was raised in Bakersfield all my life we moved here when I was about 3 years young. I nor anyone in my immediate family has ever really had a problem with walking through my city streets during the day or even late at night. As a child the bigger older kids would bully the smaller ones out of their candy on Halloween night but that was about the worst. I can still walk from one side of town to the other and be ok from harm. The worst thing about Bakersfield personally is majority of dog owners shouldn't be! They allow their dogs to roam free and that is about the scariest thing to be walking up a street and have a large dog start charging at you or even attacking you. We have our share of crime but not enough to scare you away. We're close to every thing. An hour or two drive and you're at the beach, in the mountains, in the desert, the hot springs, at a lake, or the river. We're not to big, to fast or to spread out. We have both city living and country living it's a great place to raise a family, even here in the East Side of BAKERSFIELD!! Come visit, your always welcome!!
