I'll say that corruption is the main problem in Almaty. Other than this its things stolen from cars and vandalism. It's mostly the safe place to walk even at night. And I don't know any case of physical attack because of your skin color.

I have lived here for 5 years. This is a safe city for its size. I think the streets are very safe and have not seen any signs of drug use or selling. Corruption is a problem.

Well, corruption exists in Almaty. But everything else, all these "worries" are so strange looking. It is not about Almaty at all. Where are all these scared people really from? I've been living here 40+ years, and once my things were stolen from my car. And no problem to walk alone day and night. (Denis Ten was killed because he started to chase and fight robbers, if he ignored it he would be alive. Same story could happen in almost every city worldwide.) And 165 contributors... Looks like somebody fakes Almaty crime data.

I was the one to post the first comment here. Those stats looking back were accurate compared to these. Almaty is a safe place.

Police system is very corrupted in Kazakhstan. Police protects only rich people and president, as usual in dictator country. There are a lot of dangerous thieves in freedom. Also it's dangerous to drive in city roads. As you know Kazakhstan is in one of the leading places among deaths in car accidents. I would say it's not safe to tourists in Almaty. I had been living in Almaty for 10 years and situation is worse every year

Recent murder of Olympic champion Denis Ten has significantly declined the rate of safety. He was killed during robbery at one of the central squares, noon. It seems that authorities & municipality police are not able to protect and provide safety.

Oh come on why are the stats so incorrect. This place is perfectly safe.Go compare it with some Russian city like Tolyatti or Yakutsk.Almaty will be safer than both of the two cities I just mentioned
