Was thinking of moving back home to Jersey in my retirement. But I've made the decision not to go back. Nice to pop back to see friends and family. But it is so expensive and if I go on holiday for more than 3 months I will be tax as a non resident. A tax prisoner on an 9 mile x 5 mile island that is so expensive to get off. No Thanks Government of Jersey.

There is hardly any activities for children to engage in apart from the beach in the summer.Winter is difficult for a child in a small apartment.Rents are very high and unless you have a top job in finance or a doctor you have no chance to buy a property 10 year time requirements before consideration anyway.Basic food prices are more expensive than the UK a top brand of beans at £1.90. There is crime on the island albeit lower than some places in the UK.Shops are closing down as the rents seem too high managing their profit margins on top of staffing levels and utilities expenses. The island is only tiny 9 Miles x 5 miles.Visit to a Doctor is approximately £43 a 15 minute visit depending on which practice you join, home visit is more and after 11 pm is well over £110 increasing later calling out in the night. No free health care system in Jersey .I know of many people moved to France and Portugal to live as it's cheaper in those places to buy and rent and more to do and see .Jersey is a holiday island but now not many hotels to choose from so it is not a cheap holiday .

Safest place on planet to live on, walk to work, gym and plenty of activities. Yes rents are high but thats high everywhere. If you have a family and kids you should be thinking about coming to Jersey for a peaceful life.

Figures are flawed
Tapas meal with house wine ( bottle) in market £70
Lunch with glass of house wine ( glasses x2) at fish market £120
Bell italia family meal for 3 (nothing special : pasta and pizzas and starters ) £123.90!

Stop down playing how expensive it is to eat, and have a home in Jersey. People are leaving in droves !
