Agreed with JR - i moved here 3 yrs ago for work. If you have kids it is a good town for family life. However, the constant money grab is insane here. My car plates and reg and DL for first year on a 2012 chevy malibu were (sit down for this) $870.00. O m g. That was 3 yrs ago. Fast fwd to last month. Bf just purchased a used 2012 chevy malibu. He paid $850 for plates, reg and DL. The year then was 2021 and theyre charging that ungodly amount. Most of it was taxes on the car as they do not add them into the purchase agreement here. If you buy car in state, you gotta fork over to the DMV. I traded in my car last month and bought car from Carvana (all online, operates out of Georgia and rolls taxes into sales contract). I paid $212 for plates and reg on the newer car.

Never have i seen housing so expensive, and i came here via Florida (lived there 2.5 yrs). Plus homes for sale under 180k are basically either in the hood or damaged so badly it isnt worth buying. Homes here sell in less than three days on market.

Food at wal mart is picked over and meat is outrageously expensive. I thought when i moved to “the Heartland of America”, things would be more affordable and easy to get. That is absolutely not the case here. From the little things in life like having to have a license for your cat that does not leave the house is a mandatory thing, to the big items like housing and car expenses, I have never seen anything like this.

That being said, The people here are pretty nice and the traffic is minimal. If you could live with not a lot of amenities such as big chain stores that you’re used to, you might do OK here. This is the only place On gods green earth that I know of that does not have a waffle house. Closest one is three hours away. Do your research before coming here. It’s not a bad place to live but it is a very harsh state regarding weather and living expenses.
