Mombasa is a nice place with beautiful beaches and hotel’s. I always go every year for 3 weeks and so far I fully recommend to visit but stay in 3 to 4 star hotels for comfort.

James you were really unlucky. I've went there to meet my girlfriend and it was amazing. People were nice, weather was also great. I've loved the sea and the air. We've went to many places. One thing is for sure, once they see white people(mzungu) they will try to ask for more money. You just need a friend who can guide you through. For me it was amazing experience and I'm planning to go back again.

Don't come to Kenya for tourism. Police and airport immigration will extort you for money. I was arrested at the airport in Mombasa upon landing, forced by immigration officials to go to an atm and give them money.
