I am currently living in Spain with my family,we are planning to relocate to luxembourg, please is there any support groups,or organization i can join for support and information.thanks
LuxTrust on Jan 15, 2023:
With a good education and good foreign language skills especially in German/Luxembourgish and French you can get a good middle class. The most expensive thing is the rent (>30€ per Squaremeter and more). Cost of living is upscale. Negative is bad infrastructure and partly catastrophic conditions in the authorities. You have to put up with a lot of traffic jams and very long travel times. Home office is not welcome at all. Basically, I would advise against coming to Luxembourg because here just slowly goes down because of Corona / economic crisis.

Hi, you wrote "For a family of three or four with no one else working, the situation changes:
3500 x 0.75 (there are tax benefits for children and non working partner, it might be underestimated)= 2625
-1500 for an apartment (including utilities): 1125
-800 for groceries and related items (in Germany)= 325
-200 for other general expenses= 125 (disposable income)"....

How...if school for one child is 1.260 eur?

Hello friends, can any suggest me a facebook group and a special website where I will get help interms of housing in Luxembourg?
Cyril on Jul 15, 2020:
I'm an Italian citizen, married and father to two children (6 and 3) and i'll be moving to Luxembourg alone for work.
I need to know how income tax is applied given that my family (wife and children) is settled in Italy (wife has a job).
Do I get tax deductions for children even though they live in a different country in the EU?
Any idea about family and/or children allowances in my case?

Olusegun: It depends on several factors: 1.- languages you speak (It would be ideal to dominate french, german and english or at least french and english); 2.- your nationality: eu/eea/efta (increases probailities significantly) - non eu (decreases probabilities significantly); 3.- your occupational sector: banking, finance, it, accounting, tax (increases probabilities).
The second factor as i explained in a previous comment is especially important, in the current situation for non eu citizens who are not sponsored by a company or don't have the graduate visa it's really hard to find a job.

Luca:
It depends, for a single person, your budget could be like this: you'll spend around 650-900 for a decent room. If you cross the border to Germany in order to buy groceries and general items, you could end up spending close to 350-400. Let's leave 100 euros for cellphone, healthcare, and other general expenses. Therefore your budget will be as follows:
3500 x 0.7 (your taxes could be around 30%, it might be an overestimation though)= 2450.
-900 for a room= 1550.
-400 for groceries and related items= 1150
-100 for other general expenses= 1050. (disposable income)
For a family of three or four with no one else working, the situation changes:
3500 x 0.75 (there are tax benefits for children and non working partner, it might be underestimated)= 2625
-1500 for an apartment (including utilities): 1125
-800 for groceries and related items (in Germany)= 325
-200 for other general expenses= 125 (disposable income)

@superresistant

Yes..The transportation is free with bottomless drinks and lunch inside the bus. The taxi free also if you want to travel all Luxembourg for a day. Just ask the taxi driver and he will be happy to stroll with you.

Luca on Jun 15, 2020:
I received an offer of 3,500 Euro gross per month. Is it enough to live comfortably in Luxembourg?
Unknown on Apr 28, 2020:
I completely agree with the two previous comments, transport in Luxembourg is free
superresistant on Apr 06, 2020:
Guys please update the public transportation prices, it's free so 0
Piotr on Mar 15, 2020:
Hi
Luxembourg probably is the first country in Europe that have free mass(public) transport system in a country. So ticket prices may be now obsolete.
Marco on Jan 03, 2020:
Hi, how much can be a gross salary for someone with grade and post grade studies to work in Luxemburg? I have Italian citizenship. Family of two persons, with my girlfriend with grade studies too.
Thanks!!
Emilio on Dec 09, 2019:
Im a EU citizen.

is 60,000 gross salary per year (i understand is around 3500 net income per month) enough for a family of 4 (my wife and I and 2 children age 6-10)?
is it cheaper/possible to live outside Luxemburgo in another country and commute every day
Rahul on Nov 15, 2019:
Hi everyone,

I got an offer in luxembourg and they are offering me 47000 base pay. will this salary good enough for me. I'm a single person and want to live a basic life in luxembourg. can someone give me a breakdown of my net monthly gross after all deductions and other cost like public transport, utilities and food
Unknown on Aug 30, 2019:
#Iryna, with the resident visa, you are obligated to reside in Luxembourg, so you can't commute from other countries.
Unknown on Aug 30, 2019:
#Palak Bathla, Luxembourg has a citizenship based job priority system, which means that an employer must first prefer a luxembourgish citizen, if it's not possible to find one for the specific position, the possition can be offered to an eu citizen and only if it's not possible to find one, the job can be offered to a non-eu citizen, so basically it's really hard for non eu-citizens to find jobs in Luxembourg. The alternatives to that are: coming as an expat (your company sponsor you and they do all the paperwork) or come here as a student in which case you can obtain the graduate visa that allows you to find jobs with the same priority than luxembourgish citizens.
Carol Marie Presley on Aug 23, 2019:
What kind of jobs do they have in Luxembourg and what is the pay rate..

Would 4,000 Euro a month be sufficient for a family of two
Iryna on Apr 30, 2019:
Hi. I am non-EU citizen. If I will get Visa and job in Luxembourg, would I be able to rent a place in France or Germany? Like commuting every day to work to Luxembourg, pay tax to Luxembourg, but have a rent contract for apartment in another EU country?
AR on Mar 19, 2019:
Hello
I will be moving to Luxembourg to study. Is 2500 Euro per month sufficient for the family of 2(me and my wife) to live normally?
Thanks
Naya on Mar 19, 2019:
4k€ (nett) in Luxembourg, with at least 1.6k€ for rental, is ok, just not to expect to save a lot. If you shop for groceries and services across the border, in Germany, it will be a comfortable life, until partner finds a job. Luxembourg is quite expensive in terms of lodging, and quite hard to find an apartment, since a lot of homeowners do not want children or pets. Also, try to find an apartment without agency intermediary, because that rises costs on arrival for one rent plus VAT. There are groups on Facebook and a special website that does not include agencies.
When you see the first apartment you like, take it right there, because competition for finding a place is big and nobody will wait for you to decide.
