Robert De Wet on May 10, 2018:
Koh Samui is unique:
1. It is not a town - it is an island with ribbon development along the coast, thus there is no 'downtown' area.
2. There is no public transport.
3. Taxis are a national scandal and have the highest rates in the world.
4. Except for gasoline, everything has increased by 100% in the last 12 years, across the board.
5. Electricity is usually metered by the house owner then passed to the tenant at an inflated rate.
6. Two top quality international hospitals - but VERY expensive and relying on foreigners having medical insurance.
7. Samui is now probably the most expensive place anywhere in Thailand.

Overall, the average rates shown here are incorrect and need to be adjusted upwards

The prices listed here are much lower than reality, even if shopping at Makro.
