A UK expat looking to move with monthly salary before tax of around 80K SEK.
Based on leasing a car and renting a home does anyone know of my wife (doesn't work) can live comfortably?
Thnaks
Sweden has basically two income tax:
1. Regional (11,48% in Västra Götaland) & City Tax (21,12% in Göteborg) is something everybody pays
2. The national tax is paid on the salary that is above 625,800kr (for 2025).
You can think of it as two tax brackets.
The regional tax is the money that finances your health care.
Of course it's not as simple as that, because there are a bunch of deducts based on your salary; But they these deducts happen automatically each tax year. You can calculate post-tax salaries here: https://www7.skatteverket.se/portal/inkomst-efter-skatt-se-tabell
A salary of SEK 459,500 is too little to live in Gothenburg with a whole family (assuming this is pre-tax).
The problem is also that Sweden has an increasing tax rate the more you make, so if you have a partner that is even just making minimum wage you will together make more than if you doubled your salary yourself.
