Hi !
Steve Kincaid,sep 03-2013.
Hi is right. Stay away from Sweden. The unemployment is now 7,3, i think it is much higer. The cost of living is killing you. The pay after tax is hard to liv on. The tax is the higest in this world. Sweden was ones a good country but not now. If you looking for a flat to rent,,you will never get one. It is not eny to rent. If you would be lucky to find one you will,,i think,, not afford it.
Try to find a better country .
Good luck.

I am working at a Indian IT firm and moving to Gothenburg by next month. I wanted to know what can be considered as a Good salary for me and my wife to survive and save a decent portion of it.

My wife is working currently, but to move to Sweden she will have to resign her position which pays her 55k/month take home. I am up to negotiate a salary that worth considering all these factors. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

For housing options for new arrivals - check blocket.se. If you want to get a flat you should take this as if you are applying for a jog - introduce yourself in a letter, your interests, hobbies, income, marital state and why you are applying for the housing. Being a student or young male without income is definitely disadvantage.

This city is expensive. I have been here for 6 years and it is not easy finding a job. If you don't speak Swedish you are done here. If some company is giving you a job where you only need to speak English you should be okay but finding an apartment to rent is extremely difficult. Swedish white people are shy and quiet and MOST of them are not racist, but I can tell you they are not too found of foreigners as I have witnessed a lot of prejudice talk at their homes, like during mid sommar or at home hanging out with family and friends. Overall Gothenburg is super safe except maybe Lansmansgarden and when the winter gets here it is a horrible windy, slushy, nasty cold winter. There is a TON!!! of beautiful girls here, but not all of them are into foreigners, but the ones that are fall very easily and quickly specially if you are American, from Latin America, Australian or Spaniard......everyone else has a lesser chance, this came from about 300 girls that I had surveyed.
Food is not expensive but not cheap either just average, transportation is a reasonable price but you can get on tram all the time without paying...Wages are high even for people working at Mc Donalds. You can drink water from the kitchen sink, yes you can!!!!. Taxes are high. Dont buy a car no need. Entertainment is not expensive but its a little overpriced.
Drinking is beyond expensive at a bar so you have to buy your alcohol at SYSTEM BOLAGET (With ID 20 years of age)and get wasted before you enter the club. Restaurants are expensive so cook at home. Utilities are not too pricey. Clothing is expensive specially sport gear for running or outdoor activities. Any who good luck when you get to Göteborg.
