#bert lundblad on Oct 13, 2016 : 62 y.o..ive a wife in dakar waiting for her permit , but the refugees who came here put all such nonrefugeebased applications fwd. ill soon retire 3 years, so ive been thinking that instead of bringing wife here..i go there. my pension will be around 1000 usd a month, and she ll also contribut with maybe half of that. but with age its hard to say anything about if bad Health will arise. so i wanted to know about COSTs for medicine and hospitals just i case, and if say 1500 usd will be enough to survive on for 2 persons?
thanx Bert in Sweden

Is dental care expensive in Dakar? I sent $500.00 to a friend for extraction of two tooth and medicine. I also helped with her monthly utility bill for a two bed room apartment about $270.00 last month and about six dollars for gas. Do these cost sound resonable for a two bed room apartment with two bathrooms in this area of Daker Villa Sarce Coeur. Do utilities companies provide residents with a printed utility bill each month? Thank you for any information you may give to me. Melvin

Well, i read all comments from you all my brothers and sisters. God bless you all. I'm a Nigerian living in Senegal, a security/bouncer/militant. I wouldn't delude anyone about cost of living in Senegal, it's quiet expensive, the Dakar city is developed, good security unlike Nigeria, good government unlike Nigeria, good night life unlike Nigeria, but bastardization like Nigeria. Criminally minded people like my people Nigerians. I have been around for a while and i think it's time to stop speak about African mentality. Sometimes, when most Africans can't do something good for themselves, they go end up in Mediterranean sea and they put the blames on the government. EDUCATION IS STILL THE KEY.
I'm a militant. I fight for the rights of my white family and for my black family. In my eyes, i see no colour. I love you all.

Smartphone Internet, August 2015?
Does anyone have any good advice regarding mobile Internet for a Smartphone, data on the SIM card? Different companies / any particular good company or solution?
#dykha on Jul 27, 2015 :
Amaresh, you will be more than there with that money. Darou is not Dakar. If you can find a good place to rent, it will probably be pretty cheap. About your family... it depends. Do you have kids going to school? Because I doubt you will find good schools in that area. I advise you come alone first and see. The good news ... You could save money. Hope this help

*-1+1 for rent house dakar per each month
*-min spend as daily how much as dolar
*-are there difiuclty live at dakar for security
*-or is this enough 500 dolar normally manage per each month
#John on Jul 16, 2013 :
Pierre, don't do it. Senegal isn't that cheap. If you want to live an American or European standard of living, it's going to probably cost you more in Senegal, than your home country. Also, pay is not as good as American or European pay. Health care isn't as good, quality of life isn't as good, security is not as good and there aren't as many options. Don't move there, I say take a trip and look at the country, but I would not move there.

Hi laura,

thx very much for your reply!

internet in Senegal unlimited 1MB/s is 19000(xof)it´s about 30€ and it´s fast at night. I use expresso usb pen.
#morris on Nov 16, 2012 :
@laura. The salary is average. Problem is there is a major difference between the classes. The cost of a hamburger is $2.50USD or 1300 fcha(xof). For me as an american with outside resources this is normal. But the average senagalese non professional makes around 1500 to 3000 fcha per day thats 45-90,000 per month thats expensive. whilst a plate of rice a fish for four people can cost 1000fcha if cooked at home.More afforadble. If you visit dakar and live like a resident, its very inexpensive. If you want to live like a european or american its going to cost you about 75% of the cost of living in NYC USA. Find the balance. I personally live in a 2 bedroom apt. in yoff, dakar. Not the best but i've seen worse back home. And i eat like a senegalese. lots of fish, french bread, rice, almost no veggies except potatoes, and beef or mutton every so often. If i ate like an american i would be on my way home already. Internet is of two kinds mobile(cellular,or usb) and fixed. Cellular varies depending on endless promotions. But two major companies orange, charges are based on time, and with expresso it is volume based. I use expresso on my phone for email etc etc. orange has a fixed line service at either $20 mnth 512mb/s 10G 0r $50 mnth for unlimited 1MB/s.

running late sorry about grammer etc etc
