Hi, for all those interested in the gross/net conversion it varies a lot.

Here's a tool to help you out: http://www.partena-professional.be/en/category/products-and-services/software-and-online-tools/simulations-and-tools/gross-net-simulation/

It's safe to assume that you will be deducted around 40% to 45% of your gross income (again, depending on your situation).

In Brussels you will have to account for around 700€ for a "basic" apartment rent (1 room, ok area). then another 150€ for your utilities (Heating/water/electricity/internet).

Public transport, when you have a job, is usually paid by your employer (double check), but a yearly pass costs around 400€.

For food, again depending on how much you consume, you have to account for around 200€ to 300€ per month (talking only about supermarket)

So, basically, you need at least a salary (net) of 1100€ for your basic needs, and add to that if you want to travel and eat out.

A good starting salary for a single person, in my opinion, would be 1600€ and above.
