Come move to beautiful my native Portland or surrounding suburb!
You will be following hundreds of thousands of jerks... er people who decided to move here to our diamond in the rough with their big sparkly plans for improvement and their good intentions and pave us a road straight to hell! Enjoy your ghetto nasty studio with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and complimentary gunshots! Hookers available just feet from your doorstep! Yay! No literally, yay. Get some drugs. All this, all 375 square feet with hotplate and multiple bug infestations throughout each season, can be yours starting at just $1400/month. Want to get out of the ghetto? Get 2 more jobs! If you can find one! The job market is just as plentiful as the housing now! Or just go to school and somehow manage to live here while accruing massive debt and living on financial aid! When you graduate, you will get the pleasure of serving your community from behind the scenes..... errrr counter.... at your local Subway or McDonalds or if you are lucky Starbucks will hire you because your profession may pay 80G a year but there ARE NO JOBS. Don't worry, you will either have 6 roommates or be homeless so you can really put a dent in that giant debt you just took on for no benefit whatsoever. Welcome to Portland!!!!!! And please don't worry, houses are going up faster than you can dream of so that pesky view with all those green trees and colorful flowers and birds and the deer that have the nerve to saunter across your yard at sunrise to munch on the sparkling dew covered wild blackberries and juicy strawberries and plump blueberries growing all over the place? Their days are numbered! Just wait a few weeks and you won't have to endure that hell anymore. The bulldozers and chainsaws and excavators will be there soon! Think Beaverton or Hillsboro will be different/better? Maybe a little farther out in North Plains or even out in the boonies of Forest Grove? Think again! You transplants have reached it all...... at least I have pictures of my beautiful butterfly Portland which somehow Benjamin Buttoned back into it's cocoon and emerged from the puss-filled pulsating sac as some exponentially expanding creepy Frankenstein combo of Seattle/LA/Sacremento/Tacoma/Planet of the Apes/Lord of the Flies/Blair Witch/Birdcage/Portlandia(THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT I HATE/love YOU)/Breakfast at Tiffany's-on-meth mixed with beautiful serene and unique Portland circa 1985-2012ish......"I can see you my love..... but... no.... you are fading..... I can't remember the sound of your voice.... just one more word.... please."-the monologue I imagine as I drive down TV highway past Corn Pass almost rear-ending the car in front of me because I can't peel my eyes off the south side of the road. In 34 years since birth I am seeing what is beyond the thick, 3-4 story high, centuries old tree-line which has been MURDERED since I drove this road just a week ago. Not a single branch left in sight. As I give up choking back my tears and just let them flow I think to myself: you're still 'weird'... just not in a good way :(. *heads to time machine - doesn't look back* "This time I won't take you for granted my beloved city. Now that I know your days are numbered........"
