So at The Gambia you pay a lot of money about things and services and nothing works. I spend 4000D for electricity in a month and I experience 2-5 blackouts every day. Mobile Network is like it was 15-20 years ago in Europe. Africell gives you 4M connection with 150GB data/30 days for 3300D. Sometimes you are days, even weeks without internet. No refund if the network is gone or so poor that you cant work.
Craftmanship like carpenters work is very costly and pure rubbish. Normally they ask the money in advance by telling they cant buy the materials. Most of the people pretend to be professionals but they dont carry any responsible about their work quality or schedules.
About monthly income. Normal salary for a weitress is 2000D-2500D in a cafeteria/restaurant. Experienced nurse earns 5000D in a month and its 3-shift work. And here the working days are 6 in a week and a normal working day is 10-14 hours long.
Actually I have been wondering how most of the people survive at here but lately I have seen that it doesnt matter how much they (specially women) work - the money is not enough. Lately I have helped some local friends on weekly bases and Im happy that I can do so.
I have some experience of Africa, both East and West. I have been living on this continent around 8 years of my life.
