And oh, about the crime. Crime has always existed in Latin American countries, socialist or not. It's bad, I know, but it was always near this level. It's a mentality problem, and not necessarily about politicians, though they do deserve some of the blame too.

May I remind you, socialism did not cause this mess. Sure, it may have elevated some factors, but it's mainly because of the fact that Venezuelans discovered Oil when they were a feudal society that had oligarchs at the top who directed the money to themselves. They then exploited the masses and put them into poverty for their own gain, which resulted in a hierarchy which had been solidified for over 200 years, preventing any sort of change.

If you read the Wikipedia page for Hugo Chavez, you'd figure out that socialism actually did work for the first few years, before U.S. sanctions and the 'war on the upper class' began the crisis, the latter being more so because of what I've mentioned above.

May the people of this country be freed from corruption and poverty, and have prosperity to build a new Venezuela, great as it once was. Very nice people, living in fear every day. One of my friends was killed in Caracas and robbed for everything he owns.

Whilst in Caracas in 2002,I noticed that even in the centre of the city, poverty was the main reason that I would never again visit Venezuela, bad and corrupt government, and desperate people. The world should know about this.
