Crime in New York, NY, United States

Very safe city. Lots of police presence everywhere. I walked during daytime and during the night as well, never felt unsafe anywhere. Among the world's biggest cities New York is probably the safest. Paris and London for example are both very dangerous, with London being more dangerous than Paris in my experience.

Avoid the west and south. Also, there is a lot of racism, corruption, and just rude people there in general. Most of the schools are terrible. And a lot of pushing and shoving

I'm a native of Shanghai. I neither hate nor like NYC. My mom and I stayed there (excluding Bronx & Staten Island) for several days in 2016. I was a teenager back then.
Why don't I hate it? Convenient transportation. Various restaurants and shops, of which you won't easily get tired.
Why don't I like it? Some areas are a mess. Too many snobs and dishonest people.
Thanks to dishonest people, we had two unhappy and frustrating experiences in NYC, which the following paragraphs depict.
My mom brought me an ice cream cone from a van on some street near the Charging Bull. What we wanted was a big one, but what we received was a small one, and the seller asked us to pay the price of a big one. We didn't notice sth was wrong until we'd already walked away. Wanting to check the prices, we went back at once, only to find that the seller had completely disappeared, along with the van. We're pretty sure they'd never left before on that day.
In order to fly back to Shanghai, we went to JFK Airport. While we were waiting to rent a luggage cart, a man just ahead of us, who was a fellow Shanghainese, had some problems paying his rent. After about 10 minutes, he seemed to give up but still didn't leave. We were eager to check in so we didn't wait anymore and walked forward. We paid our rent and took the luggage cart before walking away. On our way to the check-in, the man walked in the same way behind us while pushing a luggage cart, which made us both surprised and confused. When we were waiting to check in, he stood ahead of us in the line (probably cuz he was more familiar with the whole procedure). My mom checked our bank account on her cell phone, only to see the rent of two luggage carts had been deducted, which meant that he took the other one. He saw us and talked to us, like he'd done nothing wrong. Then he gave us only a few coins, which definitely didn't cover the rent of a single luggage cart.

Manhattan is pretty safe at most times sometimes in some places things can get a bit sketch but pretty safe there are a lot of homeless just don’t mind them. Brooklyn- also pretty safe but if you are a tourist they may not treat you as well as they did in Manhattan but it’s pretty safe their until you get closer to night time then in places like parks or other public places aren’t THAT safe but nothing to be afraid about. Queens - similar to Brooklyn all places will have some weirdos but queens I have seen a lot of people that are just random. Bronx- probably least safe a lot of drug dealing. Staten Island I never stayed long enough to know

New York is interesting. Safety wise its average, probably better than London or Los Angeles. But i had fun visiting it. I went their on a trip, i do not live there so i cant exactly say what its like to live there. But i enjoyed my time there.

Rude and unwelcoming people. Even people in the UK aren't THAT rude. In NYC, people are pushy and violent, and the homelessness problem doesn't make it any better. Whoever said NYC is considered the safest need a serious reality check. Oh, and subways are one of the most filthiest there is because people are overly-trashy and uptight.
