How do to find an ok job here, if you are a student and want to work part time? It is borderline impossible! I think, this city is a hopeless place for young people. The environment, social norms and life suit a pensioneer or middle age people at best, but for a young peron it can be a terrible place to exist (yes, life is extremely boring here).

A worry-free experience as I had the Credit rates from all the banks at my fingertips, plus excellent advice on which bundle would work best for my needs. Saves my time too, as it meant I didn't have to burn my lunch hours and Saturday mornings visiting different companies to compare their various packages. i am talking of my case with Myers Universal Corporation (MUC). this is a trusted credit offering corporation. you are to talk to them through email for guidelines: earlmyers1963@yahoo.com

Prices look realistic for December 2014. "Meal for 2, Mid-range Restaurant, Three-course 600 SEK", that does not include drinks. Do expect a tab at 1000+ if you want a bottle of wine.

I'm a resident of India and I was looking to move to Sweden for a job. can you guys help me with a job portal or recruitment firms in and around Stockholm? I work in the advertising field and I have a lot of international experience with agencies like Saatchi & Saatchi and Lowe. About 13 years of experience. I love Stockholm. Seems really nice to work and live in.

#Stockholmresident on Jun 29, 2014 :
#Luc yes 60000 sek/month is a very good salary and you will be able to live a comfy life!
#Stockholmresident on Jun 29, 2014 :
The #usmigrant guy is lying, if he earned 74000 sek/month he would have loads of money. I earn 36000/month = 27000 after tax, I live 15 min from city center and pay about 5000/ month in rent and mortgage. The monthly transportation card = 790 sek and I can travel how much I want any where in the Stockholm region. Food that we eat at home costs about 5000 sek/month (and we do never by low price food, only organic high quality stuf).

Salaries here: 74000 sek/month? Very few people got that sort of salary. On my last job (im running my own business now) I earned 50000 sek/month, and thats high and I had a very comfy life (believe me I do spend lots of money on fanzy restaurants etc.)... So dont believe that guy!m

I am 30sth year old, well experienced manager for one of the international companies that has a hub office here in Sthlm. Relocated to Sweden some time ago.I make 37k SEK/m before taxes. I won't even mention the rental cost, because it's just sad and depressing. But please tell me - is my company ripping me off? I was aiming for the salary that is significantly above the average (comparable to what I was making in my country) and it seems I ended up with a "some office job salary". Help me out here please, if this is the case (and the rental market) than I'm afraid I will get more depressed.
#AJ on Mar 12, 2014 :
Hi,
After reading all posts I am totally confused as to what is a good salary and what are taxes.

I will be coming there to live in stockholm, Sweden on work permit for 2 yrs. I have following questions.

1. What is the income tax slab in Sweden?
2. I have read the taxes as 60-70 % is this true? I though its flat 30 % over 500 K. :-(
3. What will be my take home if gross yearly salary as 500 K?
4. I intent to rent a 1 room place and initially plan to travel using public transport. My office would be near Norrtullsgatan, Stockholm.
5. Will take home salary post whatever taxes be sufficient to live with a 1.5 yr old child and non-working wife.

Thanks.
#Michael Stockholm on Feb 22, 2014 :
#USMigrant is insane. Or just a spoiled brat.

His picture of life in Stockholm has vary little to do with our reality.
You'd be good to half his estimates.
Most of us who live here earn around 19 000 SEK after taxes (and taxes pay for a lot here - schools, health insurance, pensions, roads, big part of public transportation...). And we do buy our homes. With great sacrifices, but seriously, where does middle class just get a house in the world.

If you want to rent 3 room apartment you can get away with 7-8000 SEK just 15 minutes away from the city center. If you want to buy one,it would cost you around 10-16000 per month. Of course one single person would most probably go for a smaller apartment, thus significantly lowering your expenses. I guess 10 000 per month would be sufficient if you don't want only too live, but even invest in an apartment.

Hello All,

I have an important decision to make so if someone can help me with their views i would really appreciate it. I am an Indian & will be in stockholm from april 2014 for 1 year. I just wanted to know what is more feasible ( Living in center stockholm or outside city limits). I am a student and will be attending a 1 year full-time masters course. It would be great if someone can suggest me about where to put up & how to go ahead. Also would like to know if students can work part-time in stockholm when they are studying. If someone can write me a detailed message i would be really thankful. You can mail me on my e-mail id or post your reply here.

Cheers!
#USMigrant on Nov 19, 2013 :
Cost here is insane!

1, Rent 16 000/month second hand (3 room 90 square meters.. not "big" by US standards)
2, 15 years waiting time to get a first hand contract
3, Under these conditions you need to manually via labour (cant use a loan for down payment), save half a million SEK as most "normal" apartments (non-soviet looking) are 5 - 6 million SEK... that nearly a Million USD!
4, My only way out is to find someone that will accept a bribe of a couple of hundred thousand for a first hand contract... as I can get that as a personal loan.
5, I make 74 000 SEK a month base salary, and have nothing left each month... I do not live in luxury. I have an old car. I pay half in taxes...

I am above the top 98% of salaries in the country and I can't afford a decent car... I have everything I need and nothing I want... But I do have lots of vacation though... :)
#stockholm tourist on Jul 27, 2013 :
Hello guys!

Im going to sweden for vacation and this site is really beneficial! Im going to stay in central stockholm as well. Really excited! Tack sa mycket! :-)
#Jan Banan on Jul 26, 2013 :
Forgot to add. I think you can get buy fairly well on 25-30k after taxes.

7-12k for rent
6-9k for daily food and living expenses
0.8k for transport
-------------------
14-22k total monthly expenditure.

Most savings achived by renting outside of central stockholm. Having the SL card for transport is hard to avoid, in particular in winter.

#Jan Banan on Jul 26, 2013 :
Central stockholm is very expensive compared to most major cities in the world, and comparing to London i would say going out is more expensve (entertainment, restaurants, drinks etc). However this is counter balance by cheaper and better quality of housing - PROVIDED YOU BUY A PLACE. Renting qill kill you as it is practially an illegal black market and all legal primary tenancy contracts go through a queue system. I have been in that queue for 4 years, and if im luck, i can get an apartment to rent in central stockholm in 10 years time. Maybe. So dont rent, just buy. Anybody with a decent job can get a fairly decent mortgage here.

2013
Cinema... 100-130 kr
Beer 0.5l 70 -80 kr
SL pass 790 kr for a month
Wine 90-120
Lunch 75 - 100 kr Anybody that can tell me where to buy lunch under 75kr that isn not McDonalds please let me know. I will pay you.

Hi Sameer,

40k is a good salary. An apartment 1 living room 1 bed room and kitchen toilet will cost around 10k outside main city. 33% tax can be assumed leaving a salary of 27k.
DO NOT ENTER THE COUNTRY WITHOUT A VISA OF LESS THAN ONE YEAR IF YOU ARE NON EU. THEY WILL TORTURE YOU TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY. Without an year visa you will not get a personal number and they will make you suffer at every stage of life.

Hi.

I think you have the salary wrong, for more details check www.scb.se
Its good to use for statistical data.

You could add some extra fun to this, is how much insurance cost for a car.
Here owning a car is really pricy.

Otherwise quite good work!

Hi! I'm doing a study of Stockholm and am interested in understanding the house renting market outside the city (and what are the areas where houses for rent are generally found--and what kind of cost would someone be looking at).

Thank!
