Would it be safe for my son and I to live about 1 hour outside merida? I am a 54 yr old and he is 25. Also would an income of 4000 CD be adequate to live?

My boyfriend wants my kids and I to move to merida . My daughter 8 has a lot of medical needs .how are the hospitals and drs. Also is this a place where not speaking Spanish will be a huge problem? How are the schools?

ray guzman, yes that is more than enough to live a pretty good life. I am a Software Engineer in Mexico and I make 20 000 pesos a month and I live very well. An average Mexican makes no more than 10 000 pesos a month so your salary is very good.

Hi, just wanted to see if you can help me out. I was offered a job in Merida by my U.S. employer with a monthly salary of 38000 pesos a month (they will pay for rent and a car). Can I live like a king in Merida with this salary? My logic is if i'm moving to a new country and i currently live in a nice apartment, with a car in nyc this move should move me up the socio-economic status. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Merida is one of the safest medium size cities in Latin America, and quite possibly some American-Canadian cities as well. That is not to say there is no crime, but taking the necessary precautions and staying away from hot spots and not mingling with the wrong crowd, you will be extremely safe.
