#Zack Many thanks for these useful data. However, uniformity in price specifics would have been nice. Sticking to one system rather than mixing up lakhs and millions, and putting the commas between the numericals accordingly would have been more convenient for the reader. Eg: VW Golf- 20,00,000 plus (20 lakh or 2 million plus), VW Polo diesel- 8,50,000 (8.5 lakh) after taxes. Toyota Corolla is about 14,00,000 (14 lakh), Suzuki Swift- 7,50,000 (7.5 lakh) and BMW 320d - Rs 35, 00,000 (35 lakh, ie. 3.5 million).

I hope the figures are right, but this is just to give you the idea. Thought it was worth a mention. Thanks again!

There is option to go to Govt. premium outlet where only premium brands are sold like the one at Gandhinagar.

There's no way you are getting a 501 Levis for 2.5 K INR ... you might get the cheaper designs at about 3k but for the 501 expect to shell out 4000 plus. The cost of alcohol has a wide price range depending on if you buy it off the Govts retail point (quite impractical if you are a tourist or icky about standing in stinky alcoholic infested queues) where Tuborg is Rs 75 , Carlsberg, Budweiser ~100 and bars where the usual markup is at least 100% to 200-300% depending on where u go. Scotch is friggin expensive at around us$ 10 or more for a double(6 cl) of JD. Red Bull is 95 Rs (1.5 USD) at the supermarket and 150-200 INR at the bars. The VW golf available in India is fully imported and hence commands a ~100% higher tax rate than a car built in India.. Which wud put the Golf at an insane Rs 2 million plus. The VW Polo Diesel which is made in India sells for about Rs 850,000 after taxes. The Toyota Corolla is about 1,400,000, the Suzuki Swift at 750,000 and the BMW 320d at Rs 3.5-4 million (10 Lakhs = 1 million)
