I have returned to Armenia about a year ago and can say that most numbers shown here are true. One can live here with $1000 a month without too many extras of course. The food is great... It is really safe here plus everyone minds their own business. In conclusion I will just say that with an income of $1500-$2000 it is heaven on earth.... Of course there are other countries with prices like these, but my assumption is that first of all it is not as safe and people are not as friendly....

im a student living here past 3 years..... Tried to love as low priced as possible.... According to me, the ideal living expenses fr a single room incl electricity and water will be 45000 AMD...
Its better if u know to cook... And daily expenses for cooking will be around 800AMD (two meal a day with milk and break for breakfast) and for transportation public transport is npt bad... So 6000 drams will be enough for it... So totally itll be 75000 drams... (180$) yerevan welcomes you!

We have been living in Yerevan for 6 months and will be here for another 4 or 6. Finding an apt. to suit our taste was not easy during the summer. During tourist season, the prices are jacked up for very distastefully furnished apts. After the summer, plenty of apt. and you can negotiate, although some rather have their places empty before lowering the rent. Go figure! During the summer the same apts. are rented daily or weekly for more.
The food is not cheap as I thought but then we buy like Americans and not the locals. What I mean by that is this: People shop daily for what they need, so they end up spending less. We go to the supermarket and buy for the week, which always seems to run out. Anyway, the only cheap thing here is labor. Goods are not! If you have your own place, you could live moderately well on a $1000 for two people. $2000 if you need to rent. 2,500 to $3000 will let you have facials, massages, gym, and a lot more luxury. All in all, I love the fact that I don't use my credit cards but only cash.

Rent for one bedroom apartment in city center is starting from 600USD till 1300USD for European standard apartments. Most of the buildings have entries from building back side. Hallways are not clean, elevators in bad shape. New buildings lack lack proper isolation or good plumbing.
#Avedis on Jan 22, 2014 :
Actually ,In Armenia it imposible to rent a house and lieve alone , you need roommate or you must stay with your family unless you are so luckey and get 1000$ then you can leave as a king ;)
#ZAZA on Dec 26, 2013 :
The average salary may be 400 $ but you have to take into account that most of the people live in many generation families so they don't rent an appartement . And in this kind of family there are 2-3 person that work which gives near 1000$ which is ok to live. But to have a more modern life meaning live in your own apartment when you are married then you need to earn 3-4 time the average salary which is not easy in a country with an high rate of unemployment
#Anonymous on Nov 08, 2013 :
I think that incorrect because if you calculate the life cost per month and compare it with the salary ,you will find the salary never ever enough for more than 12 days.
