I've lived here for a little over a year. Save for the few late night parties that carried through to the following Monday from Friday, I have not had any issue in this city whatsoever. The people are friendly, even when it's visually obvious you are not from the city. Friends are hard to make because of the lies, save face, and cancel-at-the-last-minute style, culture, but there are other foreigners with which to be friends, so don't worry too much! Don't be "too real" or "too authentic" or "too vulnerable" and you'll be okay.

Work has us traveling to Querétaro often since 2006 several times a year. To this date we’ve been always treated fairly and with respect and look forward to returning.

We live in the historic center of Queretaro 4-6 months/year. We walk all over the Centro at night and do not feel unsafe. We take the normal precautions that anyone would in a city. I can only hope that folks in the US treat Mexicans as well as we are treated in Queretaro.
