If you're thinking to live in Malta, be aware that supermarket prices vary a lot. In my experience, pretty much everyone gets the salary at the 10th, and at this moment all the supermarkets will restock. It's an island, so you have to import stuff, most of it gets spoiled, expensive transport costs, so supermarket restock only when they are sure people will buy (10th) fast so food won't spoil. I frequently notice that some vegetables even don't get replaced until the next 10th - and they just start to get more expensive and spoiled.

Prices also reflect that - onion prices will vary from 0.70/kg to 3.50/kg (or sometimes your market simply won't have onion at all) depending if you go to buy it on the 10th, the 20th, the 1st, etc. Always buy everything on the 10th, freeze as much as you can, save the industrialized and long-lasting foods for the end of the month - and try to adapt yourself to the commercial ecosystem of the island to save money and have better quality food.
