To all of the people that live in Oslo and complain about the prices being inflated, anyone can edit them. Instead of complaining just input the prices. It's not that hard to contribute if you live in Oslo and see prices below/above what is said here.
Magne Juverud on Mar 31, 2026:
Prices on Numbeo always seems so inflated, I don't pay nearly the amounts stated here for anything. Like who in Oslo pay over 3000 for basic utilities? Even the coldest months I've never gone above 1000. Internet for 1000/1000 I pay 125kr, sure its negotiated down but still far beneath what it said here. Same with food and eating out, like who has typed in 250kr for 1kg of normal cheese? Those cost around 80-120nok depending on brand.

I'm guessing most prices here are written by those who don't really know Oslo

Long time data guy and loving this site for its statistics for all kinds of interesting things. A point about Oslo salary

Net income is substantially too low for Oslo. The average salary for Oslo according SSB (Norways national statistics bureau) is 840.000 for 2024. Applying an average tax rate of 30.7% leaves us with a monthly net salary for Oslo of 48.530. The site indirectly undercommunicates Oslo competetiveness salary wise

Living in Oslo – My Experience

The food culture in Oslo is quite disappointing. Prices are high, portions are small, and the overall value for money is poor. A simple meal for two at an average restaurant — without drinks, starters, or dessert — costs around 800 NOK.

Typical prices:

Caffè latte: 65 NOK

0.5L beer: 100–130 NOK

Glass of wine: 110–180 NOK

A gym membership usually costs between 500–900 NOK per month.

Transportation:

Public transportation in Oslo is decent but limited in options. They only offer a single ticket, valid for one hour, which costs 44 NOK. There are no cheaper short-trip options or flexible ticket types, which can make daily commuting expensive.

Housing:

I’ve been renting in Oslo for a few years, and the quality of rental properties is generally poor compared to the price. Many houses and apartments are badly insulated, which is surprising given the long, cold winters.

Most homes rely on electric heaters, which significantly increase expenses during winter, from around 3,500 NOK/month for a small place to +8,000 NOK/month for a larger apartment. Always look for accommodation with central heating, as it’s much more efficient and cost-effective.

Services:

Services are mediocre and expensive. For example:

Women’s haircut: 1,100–1,500 NOK

Men’s haircut: 900–1,300 NOK

You are doing it all wrong. Just go to any Asian massage and ask for a happy ending. They can even give you the happy ending for free, it is the same with every Asian massage all over the world not just in Oslo and those Asians have fast hands.
You know, on the street you can end up getting bitten or beaten up, but Asian massage is inside, so you don't have to worry about that anymore. You know those Gypsies, Muslims or Indians are cheap people who work on the streets, but those Asians are people like us, they rent the houses so they need to pay for their rent and massage with a happy ending helps them to do that.
If you ever wondered why you have seen old white man with younger Asian girls, now you know. It is also funny sometimes when a family talks to some Asian women in a friendly way, because they all know each other, that women can know the husband even better than his wife. If you know, you know.

This salary after tax is not correct. Average salary in Oslo is around 35000 NOK. After tax. Before tax is around 50000 nok.

I am just offered a job in Oslo. Tax is about 33% of income and rent with utility will range from 20-30k per month. For a salary around 600k per year you'll have 200k as tax. 33k per month for life. A hybel is cheaper to rent but needs at least 20k so only 13k reminded for eating and clothing and travel. Oslo is hard to live for people without accomodation and emmigrant. Saving is hard. Utmost possible 500 usd per month for the above good salary.

I don't know where do you collect these prices,I am long time member(not registered by now) and am I living over 20 years in Norway I have been visiting over 60 countries and always used this website and gave honest and truthfully information about cost of living in any city/country I was with a shopping or rental bill copy, so you can have reliable information and reports for your customers such as myself as well, but today I see your cost of living reports here are way too old, such prices either no longer relative or are before pandemic. all prices worldwide has been dramatically raised up so also at least the 5 countries I was living for short terms in last two years such as, China, Cambodia, Germany, Ukraine, and Norway. I am currently still living in Oslo but at the beginning of March travel to Asia again and willing to send you my reports if interested. Best wishes for the website and those who are using it . To my opinion is still one of the most reliable cost of living website relatively speaking. Pale Rider (John Robert)
