Boring town on May 26, 2023:
Christchurch is pretty soulless and looks like driving a car up and down the road is the highlight for most people in Christchurch. Endless suburbs are spreading in all directions and public transport is one of the worst in the world. Moved here 9 years ago from Europe and I thought that I need give the city a chance as it was still recovering from the 2011 earthquake.
Found a small bubble of other immigrants and like-minded people in New Brighton that keeps me staying in Christchurch for now. Christchurch is great for outdoor enthusiasts. The Port Hills and Bank Peninsula are great hiking spots and the Southern Alps are close by. If you can stand car idiots and an anti intellectual attitude you might enjoy Christchurch
