I appreciate this survey although it is based on personal comments. I don't know of any official, Mexican surveys of this type, so much better than nothing!!!!
My comments about living in Queretaro are based on 3 years living in a gated community in a suburb of Queretaro, so that might skew the numbers somewhat. I have walked downtown in the Historical Center at night with friends and seen many families out for the night seemingly worry free. I have heard that parts of the city are not advisable, like any big city. So I don't go there.

I've lived here for a little over a year. Save for the few late night parties that carried through to the following Monday from Friday, I have not had any issue in this city whatsoever. The people are friendly, even when it's visually obvious you are not from the city. Friends are hard to make because of the lies, save face, and cancel-at-the-last-minute style, culture, but there are other foreigners with which to be friends, so don't worry too much! Don't be "too real" or "too authentic" or "too vulnerable" and you'll be okay.

Work has us traveling to Querétaro often since 2006 several times a year. To this date we’ve been always treated fairly and with respect and look forward to returning.
