This data is not credible for example 2kg rice cost around R18-20. I buy 60 eggs for about R60. For more info check Makro.co.za part of Walmart or pickandpay.co.za and compare these prices. There was a gentleman from India wanted to know about electricity our electric is still very cheap compare to India but we as locals feels to be expensive. In previous years SA used to have the cheapest electricity. Regarding the accommodation it depends where you want to stay. North is expensive and beautiful.

I just wanted to say how proud I am to be an
African-Negro.And,i will be moved somewhere home in Africa.I planned on waiting until I aged a little bit for to move home because I planned to finish the education in Colorado to start a career. To prepare myself to move home. Not to change the subject but, I tell a lot of this Negro-americans that if it wasn't for Africa, they would have never had the opportunity to call themselves americans. Now me,I'm an AFrican-Negro and, an African-Negro only.I don't give a damn where I grow up that means nothing to me.Thank you so much my Beautiful African folks for giving your time.I love you dearly and, will see you in the future.

The cost of living in Jhb is hard to calculate because all areas have different prices, i mean the price of a can of coke in Midrand is different from a can of coke in the East rand.

Can i live & feed myself in johannesburg for one month with 6300 Rand ?
#Ali on Apr 07, 2014 :
There is no staility in cost of living calculations. Public transport is actually R30.00 daily and fuel price goes up every month not to mention the current etoll. Food prices go up by a rand or two every month. Consumers are really just being abused in Johannesburg.
#Rob on Mar 27, 2014 :
18 Rand for a draught beer? Where? The cheap bars are 20 Rand. Go somewhere like Melrose Arch and you're paying 35 Rand.

I need to know what the increase will be for petrol and consumer goods (percentage wise) in the next 6 months.
#Anonymous on Mar 05, 2014 :
R17,868.76 ,disposable income! Are you crazy! Very VERY few people with that sort of "dispossable income". Is that the amount considered disposable after medical aid payments, fuel etc... I don't know may people who make that much no matter have it as dispossable.

How much is the sa tourist passport fee in south africa plz?
#K on Jan 22, 2013 :
Internet (6 Mbps, Unlimited Data, Cable/ADSL) 500.00 R

Not sure where they got this figure as 6mbps internet ADSL does not exist in SA and our fastest ADSL (4mbps) is over R1000 if you include all Telkom rentals etc.

Overseas (UK, Aus ) you get data deals which include satellite tv for about 20 pounds or 50 AU$. Satellite tv in South Africa is over 700 Rand per month.(no data included)

The gasoline prices changes frequently that's why it's difficult to keep it in sync. Help is always appreciated. Thanks
#Leila on Mar 19, 2012 :
its not fair. the transport costs are going to increase. 1 litre is R11. and soon we'l have to add e-tolling costs. thats why we should not allow e-tolling to come to fruition
#tibo on Mar 19, 2012 :
@Simon on Mar 14, 2012 : Which suburb is that? Please give me the name cause I am desperately looking for a decent place to stay and I have a gross salary of R 12500 a month - 862 medical aid - 1752 provident fund. I stay in Johannesburg CBD.

Please assist.
#Mladen on Mar 14, 2012 :
Simon, I did push some recent updates to prices.
#Simon on Mar 14, 2012 :
Who compiled this data has got it wrong, rental for a 1 bed apartment is closer to about R 2500.00 per month for something decent. I rent out a 1 bed apartment in one of the most sought after suburbs and get R 4600.00 per month. Your utilities calculations is way out by 100 % , Internet costs me R300.00 uncapped incl 1200 minutes free on all landline telephone calls. A new Golf 1.4 sells for about R 110 K not R 204 K Oranges cost about R 12.00 a pocket. Wine ( mid range ) about R 30.00. Can of .33 ml Coke about R 7.00 a can. Milk about R 7.50 a liter.

Please put correct info out
#David on Feb 20, 2012 :
In all cost of living data it seems no one allows for medical aid which for 2 people is about 380 Euros/month ! City center living? Quality of living in there is bad and cheaper by far than in the in outer regions. Who compiled this data?
