If I want to study in Christchurch, How much I have to spend for my living cost per month including food and clothing?
#Urban Camper on Oct 22, 2014 :
Hi there, I want to try urban camping as an alternative to renting accommodation ..

Urban camping is when you live discreetly in you car/van in and around city/urban locations..
It can also include live back-pack portable and rough sleeping in city doorways, parks and rooftops etc..
but that's a little too extreme for me ..

Car/Van urban camping is my plan of action ..

Can this be achievable in Christchurch NZ?

Prices are anywhere from $150-200+ per week for a 1bdrm flat. Good luck for those looking for cheap 1brm flats that are in reasonable condition. Does Christchurch expect everyone to endure awful communal living as the only alternative to affordable renting? Highway robbery. As usual.

Rent per month in Christchurch city for a 1 bedroom apartment for 956 NZ$ a month?, well I wish! I have just opened up the first 20 trade me auctions (23.06.2013) "for rent" 1 bedroom apartments, in ChCh city the average (per week)rent of those where 360 NZ$, that's about 1440 NZ$ a month. That means that real life rents are about 50% higher as listed. Christchurch needs an update here, urgently. House and rental prices here in Chch are as ridicules as the price we pay for 1 litre of milk (2.40 NZ$) compare to Germany for example where milk price became big story in the news recently because the price for milk is rising again and costs are about 1.18 NZ$ per liter...See what I mean??

#Dot on Apr 25, 2012 :
the rest of the figures are a good estimate as far as I can tell - thanks
#Dot on Apr 25, 2012 :
rentals are currently in high demand due to Christchurch rebuild so they have increased markedly.

I agree with NMich, the rental information here (April 2012) is bogus. In Christchurch apartment living is rare. The typical rental property is a 3-4 bedroom house which rents for $350-450 NZD per week (note that this is $1400-1800 per month.) If you can not afford this, you would typically "flat" with others to share the cost.
