Is it true that it's difficult to hook up with local single women there?
Thanks!
It's just work,eat,sleep,repeat.
In the district I live I have plenty of kindergartens, both private and public ones, and the price vary from 650-800 (the cheapest one AND the public) to 2500 (like "all-is-there-primium-clildcare) yuan per month (full day, 7am-5pm, 3 meals). For 3500-4000 an agency can find a babysitter for you (again, full day, and optionally she will cook and clean). So 12k per month as an AVERAGE price? you gotta be kidding. I am in GZ, not in SZ, but average price is similar now, according to this site...
If some people deny it,it's because they haven't lived in Thailand or the Philippines.
Other living expenses at least $1000 USD/month for a westerner.
Dont accept any teaching job that pays less than 15000 Yuan/month at this time.If they offer 12000 yuan/month and a private furnished apt,off campus, they are just offering a minimum.
If you are patient, you can find a job, paying you at least 15000 yuan a month, free private apt, annual flight reimbursement and annual bonus.
Good luck.
I also have some financial commitments on the uk. Can anybody give me guidance with this.
kind regards
Makala
Some of what you say is true, some is not.
Hongkies do not come much nowadays to Shenzhen since the Yuan is stronger. Costs in Shenzhen for many items are not really that cheap as compared to Hkg (say, in Mongkok). Also, for electronics, most Shenzhen people who want to buy original stuff (and there are loads of them, since salaries in Shenzhen are pretty high) go to Hkg as they are surer about the quality.
Btw, it is not peking, it is Beijing. Yes, Shenzhen has high speed trains to Guangzhou and Xiamen, and the undergroudn is fantastic, with rapid expansion on 2 additional new lines.
Rents are expensive (but that is compared to other Chinese cities - not western cities), but then Chinese people habitually save so they stay in palces where rent takes up less than half their salary.
Ad nope - we do nto have workers with PhDs! Most workers from Shenzhen have recently come from the provinces. In any case, Most people who live in Shenzhen have migrated into the city 10-30 years ago.
There are a few expats - but you will msotly see Chinese people.
As for investing, forget it - costs of houses in Shenzhen are already pretty high (comparable I woudl say to Hkg and much higher than many European / Brit / American cities). They are mostly affordable to techies earning 100,000 yuan per month.
PS - I live in Shenzhen
They are correct. 15k can be considered the median salary in Shenzhen.
Do note that most people in Shenzhen earn far higher (often double or more ) salaries. However, the range is extreme. For example, the techies in Ten cent earn to the tune of 30k per month. Many of the engineers there earn upto 100k per month. That is stunningly high, even by western standards (heard of techies in UK earning 60k - 120 k per year?)
PS - I live in Shenzhen
#BC - Yes, 20k is a reasonable salary. Expect to pay 8000 - 10,000 RMB per month on your rent. That is the only major cost. Food is priced normally (more expensive than Chengdu and Xiamen).
Prices in Shenzhen are more or less the same as Beijing and Shanghai.
Guangzhou is much cheaper than Shenzhen
