What are the actual hires for a three bedroom apartment outside of Geneva ?
Basic Costs:
cost of 1 bedroom apartments are around 2000, in the city.
cost of 2 bedroom apartments are around 3000, in the city.

Transport:
Driving across the city can take 20mins to 90 mins, depending on traffic.
Rush hour is packed everywhere.
A half fare card for train around switzerland is 180 (year), worth it if you want to travel a little for vacation. You pay half the cost of a ticket (e.g. pay the cost for only a one way ticket for a round trip).

1st class train travel is not worth the difference if you do not make more than 200k chf per year and need quite space to work. (1st class full fare card is 5000 (year).
Purchasing Property:
Current prices are at an all time high.
A house or apartment requires 20% down payment. In the city, 80m2 is near 1.2 million CHF.
Down payment of 20% on 1.2 million = 240000 chf
Various closing, notary and agent fees, well in excess of 50000 chf
Monthly Mortgage cost cannot exceed 33-35% of monthly income (before or after tax I am not certain).
Renting:
Current prices are at an all time high.
Finding a rental is very very hard without a relocation company, they charge around 10000? to help you, often a company relocating you will arrange and pay for one for you, if not ask for it! They seem to help you rise through the default priority lists for types of residents.
Rental priorities are given to various types of residents, with families being close to the top (long term residents wanting stable and quiet surroundings) and single women being close to the bottom (culturally assumed that a single woman will move in with future husband).
France:
Living in France is much cheaper (all around), but travel can be much tougher.
Geneva & Population:
The city of Geneva, about 140000, is the capital of the canton of Geneva, about 200000, the surrounding cities in France and Switzerland bring the population total to about 600000. Lots of workers commute.
I have 12years of experience in hotel as a manager. What salary should I expect?
- Rent all incl: 2500 CHF
- Health insurance: 400 CHF
- Car Leasing+Insurance: 1000 CHF (can be less if I buy an used car, this is the maximum)
- Car Fuel: 200 CHF
- Accrual for unexpected cost (for example dentist, car tyres, new fridge etc.): 1000 CHF
Remains: 2150 CHF
Is this planning realistic?
Do you think this would be enough for having a decent life (incl. going out regularly, eating outside, 1-2 vacations per year?
Thank you!
