#Sam on Sep 03, 2013 : Nothing extraordinary, but cars are mostly stolen from rich districts (Buda side). I have been living in the US for 4 years, traveled to cities from the East Coast to West Coast, visited about 30 countries, and I can surely tell, Hungary has been proven to be one of the safest countries I have been to. As it has been listed above, I would not go out with a suitcase full of money at night around 3am in the 8th district, but as almost every corner has camera installed to, the situation has improved a lot better. Somewhere I read, Budapest was in the list of top 5 safest cities in Europe (if I remember well, placed second).

Budapest is rather safe than unsafe.Be careful in district 8,10,21 the mostly, and especially at night. Taxi drivers and ticket controllers can be tricky sometimes, keep your wallet in safe place and watch over it on crowded trams and buses. Budapest is beautiful, have a nice time here guys! :)

are people worried about car thefts?

Budapest is safe, however I would suggest to use cab in d night. The most dangerous district in Budapest is the 8th district. If you can, stay away from that area. DO NOT GIVE money on the street to anybody as they are checking your wallets (homeless people). If you are using public transport., becareful on the 4,6 trams. This is the favorit places of every thief in Budapest. This is Europe's most busiest line. In case of any question, please let me know
