The old town is safe, I felt very comfortable walking there but in downtown there are a lot of drug addicts and I didn’t feel safe at all. They yell, they fight and they scare you into giving them money.

Rather arrogant attitudes here, just like in Paris. Crime is on the rise lately, many things are kept out of media.

It's a wonderful, evocative place and extremely safe. There are (fairly rare) years with no murders,and two horrific but unusual cases in the last ten years, one the murder of two strangers and the other the slaughter of five or six worshippers in a mosque. That said, I'm not aware of racism, but I'm white. I also live in Toronto and miss the racial diversity when I'm in Quebec.if you are an Anglophone determined to live here using only French, people everywhere will support you.

Slasher killed and slashed several people in downtown Quebec city recently. Burglaries of parked cars. A father killed his 2 children and killed himself. Lots of unreported domestic violence cases. Abuse of adopted children.
