// , What were the results from last year? Is there any way to do a historical comparison for deeper research?

This is the worst city to live in if you are male (unless you are in the top 1%). The women are so ugly and fat and since there are so many dudes they still get guys that are pretty good looking. If you are male and looking for a good dating life stay the hell away from here.

For those of you moving to SJ - salary requirement depends. SJ has its less desirable areas just like any big city. If you're okay with living in a less desirable part of town, you can get away with 100k total household income. Try San Jose East and South. If you're considering moving to the Silicon Valley proper, you will need 100k per head. To give you an idea: 1 Bedroom apartment rents for around 2k, sells for around 400k.
#Anonymous on Nov 03, 2015 :
@ #mike, at least 100k if you're wife is not working.

How much salary will be enough for a family of 3 (me my wife and 6 month kid) to live in a 2 or 3 bedroom apt in san jose?
#Joey on Sep 08, 2015 :
This is a very expensive city. The thing that is the worst for budget is the housing prices. The east side of the city near story road and king road are bad areas as well as most of downtown. The nicest areas are closer to the west side and south side of the city. A decent home in the bad areas can go for over 500k and one in the nicer areas can reach over 1 million.

Will 82000 per year is enough for a family of 4 with 2 small kids in it. I am planning to move to Sanjose next month.
#Anonymous on Jul 11, 2015 :
will $75000/year be good enough to live on for a single person..what would b the low prices for 1 bed room rentals/monthly
#Mark on Mar 07, 2015 :
The rents here have been going up 10-15% per year for the last few years, and will continue to do so. The very cheapest one bedroom apartments go for around $2000. Forget about buying a house. Run-down 1000 sq ft shacks in bad part of town go for $600K and up.

I'm considering moving to SJ. I know it depends on a lot of factors, but how much should I make to be able to live in SJ? Family of 2 (my wife and I), renting a 1bd apt.
#Anonymous on Dec 14, 2014 :
140k is adequate for a family family of four... Housing is expensive and so do not expect to buy a big house.
#Anonymous on Dec 08, 2014 :
I need some information, may somebody from San Jose can help me: it´s possible to live in San Jose (2 adult + 2 kids) with a salary of $140K + 15% of bonus? We´re thinking to move to San Jose but we need first, some information. Thank you!!!
#anonymous on Dec 03, 2014 :
Having lived in San Jose my whole life, I can say that those rent estimates are actually pretty low... There are few options under $1900 for a one bedroom, and they are normally reserved for low income residents.
#Anonymous on Jun 06, 2014 :
There is no way that is actually the rent- have you checked recently (yes I've seen the updated date, but there is no way that is accurate)
