Lived in Aberdeen/surrounding area all my life - it's pretty expensive. As an "oil city" the cost of living is rather high, 40m^2 1 bedroom apartments sell for £130,000 (in a bad area) up to £150,000 in better areas, bigger one and two bedroom apartments in good areas can run up to £250,000. Unless you are in oil and gas, or have a combined income with a partner, you may struggle to live here.

That being said, the oil price is in a massive slump at the moment, so things may change.

There is no point in being in this city unless you are in oil or a well paid job. I earn 25k a year in the NHS and I cannot afford to move out. House prices and rent are crazy, with barely any council housing available.

If you are single, I'd say you need atleast 40k a year to have a half decent life here, not just a mere existence.

Hi
may i know how much cost of living in Aberdeen for 2 people. how much money to survive for 2 people and a baby?
#Jhn on Feb 01, 2014 :
Aberdeen is typical oilfield-victim city. Become very expesive, but doesn't really offer anything above standard regarding quality of life, entertainment, sports etc.
