I am living for years in Munich. I never experiences racism.
#James on Aug 09, 2016 :
I had hoped to move somewhere to get away from Asians (Indians, Pakistanis), Africans and Jamaicans. I have seen how they have ruined cities in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia. But from reading these messages, I guess there is absolutely no getting away from third world scum.

I'm graduate of economics, I speak German, Spanish, English, and some French. I've worked with former Finance minister back in my country, I was in Banking in Finance. I'm married to a German. I'm South East Asian... If you are going to ask me wether Germans are racist? After living here for 16 years and working for 3 years in a German banking institution? YES most educated people I've worked with were racist!

@Milanko,

If you know german, it should not be so difficult to find a job here.
But without experience and without language skills, it becomes harder.
Salaries in programming in Munich, in general:

- 40.000 (juniors, not much experience),
- 50.000 (mid-level)
- 60.000 (mid-level+, senior)
- 70.000+ (architects, trendy technologies, rare skills etc)

If you live alone, you get around 60% of that amount as after tax salary, meaning 50.000e per year bring you around 2500e per month after taxes.

I'm finding the 1800€ listed here as confusing.
Is this a range for blue-collar or white-collar class of people?
What experience(years), education (Bachelor, Masters, Dropout, None) is this range based on.
This will be really helpful to people who plan to come and live in Munich.

With a 1800€ min, I'm assuming the person has min Bachelor degree, and 2 years of experience.

Would it be feasible for me to move to Munich right out of college(with a Master's in French/English Language Education) and make a living as a teacher? I will be fluent in German by the time I finish college, as well as French, and I'm a native English speaker.
#Jules on Jul 25, 2015 :
Anyone who says there is racism in munich clearly has encountered the wrong kind of people. I'm asian myself and most of my friends are german, there is no racism whatsoever with them. I have encountered racism, however that's usually only with lesser educated locals (young and old).

Educated people, including young students are very friendly, especially to CIVIL foreigners. Try to adapt to their style, chinese and indians aren't liked because they behave as if they're still at home, pushing you on the subway etc, that's why they have a bad reputation down here.

If you want to encounter real racism, go for cities like Leipzig.

Regarding racism, is it really that bad in Germany? Does anyone here know how they would regard a well educated South American with good English? In Munich and other German cities.

Thanks for any help!
#aiman on Jul 10, 2015 :

#Really? on Jul 04, 2015 :
Having spent 7 months in Germany, it's an incredibly racist place and not just against Indians.
#Matt on May 28, 2015 :

#Matt on Jul 28, 2014 :
I'm thinking of moving from U.S. to Germany. I have a BA in History and don't want to teach it. If I could find any job there (even minimum wage) I think I could afford to live...
#Tav on Jul 21, 2014 :
Theres definately racism in munich. And racism against indians. I wouldn't move to germany if I were indian.
#Andy Pretzsch on Jun 26, 2014 :
I think Munich is really safe. Safer than most of the cities I know.
I think you should have at least € 2,000.-- to enjoy life in the Munich area. Housing is most expensive in Munich compared to any other town in Germany.
#lol on Apr 10, 2014 :
No racism? Do you even live in munich?
#AP on Feb 20, 2014 :
PK Das, yeah it's safe. There's no racism against Indians.
#cigdem on Feb 12, 2014 :
